“Nice place, confused service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

So the hotel itself is a great building with a view of the Nile and a Panoramic pool. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious enough and clean, and the food is fine. The problem I have with it is the service - we wanted to add one person to our party, and had been unable to do it online, but the whole process took hours, and in the end reception asked us to go into the lounge, and make a new booking online (internet isn't free) which they could then process. We ordered room service, which whilst it came hot took a long while.
I also managed to leave something behind, and have sent numerous emails asking if it has been found, with no response from the hotel or management. This isn't to say the service wasn't very very friendly, it was just a bit clueless.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying extra for a Nile view, often rooms can see it anyway if you look, and the pa...

The front desk staff at the hotel were excellent and very helpful - in particular Waled and Amany (not sure of the spelling?). Rooftop terrace with pool is lovely. No serious criticisms, especially given the superb price of the hotel - we would definitely be happy to stay here again. That said, the bathroom was clean enough, but barely - e.g. faded old stains on the floor. The breakfast in the restaurant was also good enough, but not brilliant.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room/back-side room to avoid any street noise.

Before comming to this hotel we looked up prices via Expedia. We got a quote for $45, we didn't book online and went directly to the hotel. Here they told us that there where no rooms available for $45, only $55. We told them about the internet quote but they didn't believe this. We went online via their own WIFI and showed them the quote. Even then they would not let us have a room for $45. So we booked it online and after a few minuted they got the confirmation! In the end they caused a lot of anger with us and probably they earned less because Expedia will probably not pay the full $45 to them.

The hotel is nice tough, ask for a room on the back with pyramid view, much quieter!

It was a nice stay in swiss nile. Hotel is not located on the nile like other hotels but a street away from it. The nile view room is OK but it has a problem of traffic noise. The rooms at the back has basically old broken building view but the rooms are quite & comfortable. We hardly stayed in the rooms therefore, it doesn't matter about the view. We had both Nile view and no view rooms. Nileview rooms not worth paying for + traffic noise. The breakfast is quite good as well. It is a 3 star facility. Definitly good placeto stay for the price. Average around $50/night inclusive of breakfast and taxes.

We stopped at the Swiss inn Nile on the 11th July. For us it's the strength was that it was a very clean comfy able hotel. Clean linen and towels every day, beds were the softest I've slept in while touring Egypt. The pool is on the rooftop along with a snack bar, everything clean and tidy as well as being small. Views are also good with a view of the Nile but it does over look a very poor area of Giza. Situated near where the local cattle are bought and sold it is not the prettiest side of the Nile however if you can get by that it is in a interesting position. Walking down the road full of cattle and local amenities you get a real view of city with its busy road and shacks that line the streets. We even managed to grab local take out a few steps away from the hotel door. £1.10 for enough  food and Pepsi to fill us both, bargain! With food in mind the hotels drink menu is very strange, order a can of pepsi and you will be charged £1.20, order fries and a burger with that and you will pay £3.50, very good value if you want western food and it's around what you will pay anywhere in Cairo. Breakfast was ok, a good selection but none of it great as we find usually the case in Egypt, staff were very helpful and smart looking also. The hotel is situated 15 min taxi ride from downtown Cairo, which with all the demonstrations we thought it was for the best. We found taxi rides to downtown Cairo around £1.50 taking the white city cabs on the metre that drive past the hotel every other second. The hotel is not exciting, it's not flash but for the right price it's a great base for when your sight seeing in a trouble free cairo.

We stayed in this hotel twice at the beginning and end of a tour of Egypt. We had two different roomes and the second ones were much better than the first. The first ones were in need of redecoration. The hotel is not located in the best area of Cairo with very little around the hotel. If you intend to eat in the hotel is the only option as there is nothing else on offer in the surrounding area. There is not much choice of food but it is reasonably priced. The hotel is not particularly near the main tourist attractions so don't stay here if you have limited time and no transport. The road outside the hotel is very busy and is noisy all night as the horn is the most used part of the car in Egypt. The rooftop swimming pool gives great views over Cairo.

As you can imagine, living in Cairo at the moment isn't too relaxing so we decided we needed a bit of a break from Zamalek with a pool and a bit of space to walk.

For this it was great, a great pool and, most excitedly for a city with virtually no open spaces, a golf course to walk around. According to the golf playing husband, its one of the older courses in Cairo so is very established with lovely flora and fauna. The evening we were there, before dinner, we walked around the course. The players had left and the flame trees were in full blossom with lots of birds flying around. Add the sprinklers going and it was almost like being in a garden in Australia.

The Swiss Inn is nice enough but is getting a bit tired around the edges. For instance the smaller pool was closed for maintenance. Of course, in the current political situation this is understandable and I am sure, once tourism is able to pick up, will be improved.

The rooms were clean with good facilities, the walk in shower was particularly nice. But little things were of concern for instance the plugs which didn't really fit in the sockets snugly so did fall out too easily.

The food was OK but the service to the bar by the pool very slow, even by laid back Egyptian standards. The evening buffet was mediocre and as always the Egyptian food by far the best. The branding is a bit confused with the evening half board meal being served in an Indian themed restaurant and no Indian food in sight.

There is a spa and gym but as we didn't visit them, I cannot comment on the facilities and the treatments on offer.

My husband played a round of golf when we were there as he does regularly, and the golf course seemed well used especially before it got too hot in the day.

Having said all this we did have a lovely break and the staff, were friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: We chose a room on the ground floor which was great to keep on eye on the children - who are older...
