“Nice getaway from traffic on weekdays”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

This is a beautiful theme garden near the edge of what once was a beautiful winter escape from Cairo. Helwan has long since become an industrial city then later fell into despair. However, the Japanese Gardens are still a great attraction, featuring beautiful promenades, canals, fish ponds and 30 identical Pink Buddha statues, in addition to a number of larger Buddhas and Buddha heads. Japanese style gateways and lanterns accentuate the Japanese theme.

Helwan has a number of attractions, however the Japanese Gardens must be the most enjoyable but only on weekdays. In the weekends and public holidays it can attract quite a crowd, often quite rowdy! But perhaps that's part of the attraction.
