Just returned from a four night trip to Cairo where we had the opportunity to "taste" the new Fairmont hotel in town. To make things easier:
a. What we liked
The very elegant anf fresh (the hotel is pretty new) ambience in it / Rooms are very well appointed and spotlessly clean/ Bathrooms are gorgeous / Breakfast is very good providing great selection of cold and hot dishes / The jazz singer and the piano player in one of the bars are amazing !!! Worth a visit even you are not a guest of the hotel/ Staff all around is very polite, helpful and smiley / Location is convenient
b. What we did not
370 EPS for a terrible Bellini cocktail (nothing to do with the famous one) is a lot !!!- a mohito was 75/ A la catre breakfast hot menu is nothing special really - better avoid it / Service in breakfast needs to be improved - you have to ask twice for coffee refil l/ Some of the staff does not speak english fluently and in case this is not your monther language probably you will face problems / When we asked to upgtade our room we were told that we should proceed throuhg the hotel wed site !!! / Trnasportation service by the hotel is very expensive and needs some attention... / One day the roome was not cleaned until afternoon / 90 ponrds for one hour internet surfing/Last but not least: We were charged with all the amount of our stay plus some additional one just in case ... from the first moment we checked in! The front dest said that this amount was just "frozen" - Citibank alerted that the amount was simply charged. We can understand that this is just another policy, nevertheless it made us feel very uncomfortable.
All in all this is a high end property with many advantages. One day we visited Four Seasons in the Nile City for dinner and we were all impressed ! So in case you would like to splurge during your stay in Cairo stay there. If not go for Fairmont and you will not be disapointed!
