The prices are on the goods, and their beauty and craftmanship is enough to secure a sale! Every visitor to Egypt should take home this lasting souvenir to grace the walls at home.

“Get a beautiful memento”
Reviewed September 4, 2011

A genuine painted papyrus is indeed a fantastic memory of a trip to Egypt. They’re beautiful. The cheaper versions sold in the streets are made of banana skin – but let someone explain to you in situ how to tell the difference, it’s easy once you’re told – and therefore get the more expensive but genuine thing at the institute or one of the other bona fide institutes. Here you can also see how they are made, prepared to last. This time I only went with friends who were there for the first time, but I bought painted papyrus here in the 80s. It’s been up on my walls ever since and still looks the same with the paints used still in their same vibrant and bright colors. The motives are taken off real hieroglyphics found in the tombs and on the temples.
