“Stunning. Put it on your bucket list”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

Ok first off , yes Egypt is a mess right now, but dont cross this off your list yet.
The Pyramids at Gizeh are simply stunning. When you arrive and see them for the first time you will be amazed how close they are to homes and hotels.. it is in the dessert, but the palteau is very close to the city. At select hotels you can see them which is mind boggeling.
It is a bit of a circus there. There are many people trying to see you things, constantly bugging you and asking to take your photo ( even the cops). On the plus side, there are enough tourists that they will move on and go look for another person. Just enjoy the action and adventure.
Its best you ask a fellow tourist to take your picture vs giving it to a local. ( Sorry locals, but if you were a bit more organized you could really rake in the $). Again, dont let the people draw you away from the sights!

As for camels, this is one photo you will WANT to get. If you are interested, see if another couple wants to join you. Then offer the guide $10 ( aprox) per person. take it or leave it. Dont pay up front. If you do, they'll ask you for a tip.
the guide takes you 200 meters or so out and the ride is fun.. Get some photos here. Let the guide take your picture. he wont run off with your camera because you have his camel!
At the end of the ride he'll ask for a tip.. so consider, whats another $5.? He may still ask for more but say no. ( but again be a bit kind and give him a tip).
treasure your visit, enjoy the view, the people and the craziness!

“Amazing place but the touts need controlling”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

This place is amazing with 3 stunning Pyramids, fortunately its SO amazing you'll put up with everything that should put you off and if you're having a bad day, don't go.
If coming into the area wasn't bad enough (horse and camel touts will even get into your cab to talk to you), then once inside you'd think they were controlled but you are hassled every 5/10mins to buy something, even the security and police will offer to take photos and then ask for a tip afterwards. If you're not good at just ignoring people then a stern "La" (No) will suffice backed up with a "Shookrum" (Thank you) with your hand on your heart.
Honestly, other than that you will LOVE the place, its simply beautiful.
Oh I would say the Great Pyramid is not worth paying the entry fee, you just go up a few steep tunnels then to an empty tomb.
So enjoy and dont forget your "No Camels, No Horses" T-shirt. :)

“"Simply put.......Breathtaking"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

We visited during the negative FCO travel advice and are so glad we did. We literally had the whole place to ourselves, even the sellers were few and far between.
This really is a must see, it truly is awe inspiring. I'm literally at a loss what else to say other than "wow" "how?" and "wow". If you only ever get the chance to visit one place in your entire life, this is it.
One note, people will offer you pictures of you on/with their camels/horses, there is of course a fee, negotiate beforehand and stick to your guns. Personally I didn't have a problem with this as I knew the score. There are so few tourists and money is tight, yet I never felt pressured and everyone was very polite, I very much doubt this is normally the case.
Also try and make the Sphinx at sunset, simply breathtaking.

“breathtaking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

BREATHTAKING, i think everyone has to come here at least once in their lifetime, just don't ride their camels, it's painstakingly expensive, and there's nothing much to do on the camels. simply put, not worth it at all.
