“The sheer size....”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

.... of both the Great Pyramid of Cheops and of the Sphinx took me by surprise. Most impressive, and it was nice to see at last something I had studied at school over fifty years ago. The hassle of the souvenir touts and the tiresome Egyptian requests for extra payments and 'tips' is really annoying, but nothing can take away the grandeur of the structures. The addition of camels, horses, horse-drawn carriages etc was picturesque, but I didn't allow myself to be persuaded I needed any of them and walked round the main sights easily.

Even though I was with an Egyptian colleague as 'minder' we had to put up with one of the pesky 'guides', a young man who could hardly speak any English, told us very little and then complained about a modest payment. We didn't pay to go inside the big pyramid, but went into one of the little ones with its 'security guard': an interesting descent down several steep ladders to the buria; chamber and at a 'tip' of 5 LE a fraction of the price of the big one.

I always knew Napoleon was a rotter, and (re-?)discovering that he ordered his men to shoot the nose shot off the Sphinx just proves it!

“Simply Stunning”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Lots of people selling cheap souvenirs and they do hassle you a lot so be prepared. If you go to view the boat as well watch out for the 'guides' inside that will go round with you and expect a tip

One of the most fascinating places I've already seen in my life. With a camel ride or a horse riding, unforgettable.Just bargain the prices for riding!

“Amazing even amongst the screaming kids”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

10 years ago, the area was fairly peaceful and you could really take it all in. Screaming kids and other weirdness aside, the plateau remains one of the best sights in the world. Having been to Egypt around 15 times for work so far it never gets old.

Avoid hawkers trying to sell you trips. Tours are ok, first timers should always take a tour of the area as there is alot to see.
