This was part of a day tour we took in was very quiet and we felt very safe. It was nice to go into another religious place of worship and compare what it to Christian ways. Very enlightening.

The Mohamed Ali ( not the boxer ) mosque was a very peaceful, beautiful place to visit. I went with my family. The women have to cover their heads, everyone must remove their shoes and no shorts or shoulders showing. Other than that, it is a very spiritual place, beautiful and a great site for pictures. you can also get a nice areal view of Cairo from there.

Mohamed Ali mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques in Cairo . It's similar to the blue mosque at Istanbul and they said that mohamed Ali used some rocks from pyramids area during its construction. You will feal peace and relax inside.
Mohamed Ali mosque is locate inside Saladine castle which is also contain another old mosque and 2 museums. From the castle you can see the old islamic Cairo, beautiful view.
So you can visit many places in one place.

Visited last May with a private guide. It is an impressive building as you approach. I walked around a lot of the city with my guide but this mosque is in a deprived area so be careful. Inside was cavernous - lovely domed ceiling. Lovely ornate classical decoration. Sat down for a while on the carpet and took in the surroundings. Very peaceful.
