Tahrir used to be the heart of the 20th century Cairo. And this place will never be forgotten as the heart of the 25th of January 2011 revolution. But now, it is a village of Salafists, steetboys, fool und taameia verdors, flog nad teeshirt sellers, beggers ... Usually you have to fight with your car to cross the place, where Salafis are the once who "control" the traffic. Today (July 26th) Tahreer was a mess... and it will be for long, a am affraid!

It was fun to stop by here - I was nervous about it with all the security warnings, but it was a total non-event. Just traffic, a few street vendors, people walking to work...totally normal. Took lots of photos and went on. Check in with your hotel or tour guide on the current situation. But 2 days before election all was quiet!

We actually crossed the medan to enter the museum. It was quiet that day but should be avoided on Fridays.

This the square who witnessed the large crouds of Egyptions the refused Mobarek regime, and the place who witnessed the celeberation by its stepping down. Its the symbol for the power of humanbeings to decide their present and future. You can visit the square when you visit the Egyptian museum. I advice you not to go deeply inside the square as sometimes you may meet unfriendly persons.
