What an amazing site. The bent pyramid is full of charm. It still holds a lot of its outer casing still, something that unfortunately isn't common on most of the pyramids these days.
The pyramid is currently under going some restoration work on it. That in itself was a site to see. The Egyptian workman climb intricate wooden scaffolding in the blazing sun. When we arrived at the site some of the Egyptians had stopped for tea and invited myself, my mother and our guide, Samir over to join them. Their tea and hospitality was lovely. The Egyptians are so friendly and full of charm.
A beautiful site to visit

Dahshur is another site which is further away from the city and needs fair bit of planning ahead of visit. It is well worth the visit, though.

We were so glad we went to Dahshur. It was completely different than Giza, hardly anyone around. You have to climb up some wooden steps to get down into the pyramid, its not for the faint hearted but is included in the ticket price, unlike Giza. I would recommend hiring a car or a guide (we used Egypt Tailor Made Tours) to get there.

Forget Giza you really need to travel the extra miles and see Dashur. Generally you will have the place to yourself. The Red pyramid is easy to enter, the bent Pyramid has the most intact casing of any pyramid and gives a real idea of how they all must have looked when new. You will benefit even more if you do a bit of reading before the trip (no "guides" hanging around here)

When we visited on our most recent Egypt trip, March 2014, poor Dashur was near empty. We were the only tourists there that morning, had it all to ourselves. The Red pyramid is a often-missed gem for tourists as it is the easiest to climb in, and you get to climb part way up it to the entrance...the bent pyramid nearby is also a great photo stop.
