We recently completed a four-day Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor and the ship we sailed on was the MS Nile Dolphin. This was our choice from several options given by the tour company we used to arrange the cruise along with private transfers from and back to Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. The sailing schedule was fairly typical for all ships.
This is a review of the ship and not the visits ashore which will vary depending on the tour company and the guide. We had a private guide that sailed with us and enjoyed that experience.
The ship was more or less as expected based on my research that included using this site. It is classified as an Egyptian 5* Deluxe but it would probably rate 3 to 4* elsewhere but it was fine for the 3 nights onboard. On our cruise the ship was less than half full and this seems to be typical for the reduced fleet but tourist number appear to be starting to increase.
Ship staff were friendly and always willing to help, food was buffet style for all meals and was varied, plentiful, hot and good. Cabin was on the small side and in need of updating but the toilet was spacious, beds were very firm and there were large windows that opened fully to give great views of the land as we sailed along. There was a small fridge and an old style television in the cabin with a couple of English language channels that were available when the ship was docked.
An annoying feature that seems to be typical of the ships is that complimentary bottled water is not provided but can be bought onboard. However, it is readily available and much cheaper ashore. Tea and coffee very available at breakfast but otherwise had to be bought. Beer and wine were available at about 60 EP (330mL) and 80 EP and we supplemented with supplies bought ashore in Aswan at 27 EP for 500 mL.
As has been mentioned many times before these are really floating hotels with limited cruising time and they do travel in convoys which wasn’t a problem. They do berth side by side which does limit the view from the cabin but this really wasn’t a problem since time is mainly spent either sleeping, eating or visiting sites.
Entertainment was provided on two evenings but the live music was amplified to a level that was well in excess of what was reasonable (this from an old rocker).
Would I recommend the ship and cruise - on balance yes since the sailing days when we watched the real Egypt slide past us were wonderful and the ship's crew were faultless. However I would probable negotiate the price more.
