Owner description: The oldest existing synagogue in Cairo was originally a church in the 8th century.

This is a neat part of the city in general and everyone should go. The synagogue itself is interesting and allows you to walk through the old parts. Highly recommend.

So I stopped to kiss the mezuzah on the way in and it wasn't such a good idea. It is a beautiful small synagogue and the only one we saw while in Israel. The Jewish population there is minuscule and they noticed that I stopped. It is a Muslim country. The majority of the sites you will see will be not ancient synagogues... just go in and take in the energy and idea of it all. You will find it interesting.

This church is known as the place where the prophet Moses was found after being on the river to the Nile to avoid the killing of the Pharaoh king. This place completes a history tour in Old City Egypt. the architecture is very beautiful. despite being in a narrow location, but pretty much visited by tourists. Unfortunately there is a prohibition in the photo so that forced to be photographed on the outside only,

Provides a good insight for the Jewish experience in Cairo and the restoration of the synagogue by Canadian support was surprising.

It is located within the coptic city, just few steps from the Abu Serga church, & visiting both is a must, to see the diversity in Cairo..
It is a small synagogue, but with very nice architecture.. It is one of those places with few tourists, so you can enjoy your time, & have a good look of the place..
Expected visit time: 30 minutes as a maximum..
The whole area (coptic city), is a very nice & relaxing place., With beautiful historical & religious buildings, & narrow pathways (no cars), making it so special..
