Basically it is on Gezira Island on the Nile. The bridges connecting the island are super crowded and bustling with life. Zamalek is a place you can roam around on foot, you may be surprise what you will find while roaming the streets of Zamalek. Lots of high end hotels and residences on the island too.

Zamalek is a very beautiful island. We walked most of it, but there are horse carriages available. It is green and clean. I recommend walking across the lion bridge and along the cornice while you are there.

The way I like to discover cities is simply walking and admiring architecture and urban organisation.
Zamalek is the ideal area to spot old buildings and houses dating from 19th century or the 1920s.
Just walk and enjoy. On Zamalek island I would do it day and night.

Zamalek is a real island in the middle of crowded Cairo connected to the city by bridges, it is considered one of the pretigious destricts in Cairo most of the Embasies are located there, full of different types of restaurants, you can have an enjoyable walk, there are also some nice hotels having magnificient views on the Nile river.

Seems to be an exclusive neighbourhood, but it does nothing for me really. The best thing is the Nile, and you can see that in a million other places. I wouldn't bother.
