Zamalek is a lovely island packed with shops and restaurants. A good place to live if you work in the city center. Nice promenades along the river.

we went almost every night to Zamalek to try several of the nice restaurants and bars and here is a great selection of different kinds of shops, maybe a bit more expensive then in the rest of Cairo, but very convenient for us.

Zamalek is an island filled with expats, upper crust Egyptians, and fantastic restaurants and shopping.

There is so much here to make an expat feel at home, and even the supermarkets are stocked with so many imported goods, you can find your favorite groceries.

As a Zamalek-ite, I can confidently tell you that this is the place to be if you want to be in the center of it all. Location wise you are equidistant from everywhere you could possibly want to go. It is also one of the only places in Cairo where you can take a stroll (safely and with a nice view). There are PLENTY of restaurants, cafes, bars, activities, sights...etc. all in the confines of this island. Because of this, zamalek can also be a nightmare in parking and traffic on weekend nights and can get a bit noisy.

If you are moving here, try not to get an apartment on the Nile... the idea of it is nice, but the noise pollution from the feluccas will make you regret that decision immediately.

Zamalek also has a bunch of funky boutiques with local-made jewelry, handicrafts and more. Ask a local about these because you probably wont notice them right away. And if you love cupcakes, waffles and burgers... well then you will be spending a lot of time here. :)

Zamalek is an elegant district in Cairo, Gizira (Island) club is located here for elite families, you must try restaurants here, try Abd el Wahab restaurant for all oriental food, one of the best is Sequia, and it is located in the tip of the island like Titanic  with good verities of food… There is also the amazing Nola Cupcake store, Marriott Hotel here one of the best in Cairo both traditional furniture with ROYAL style & location which provide great Nile view… Diwan book store has 2 branches here where u can find all u need of books or CDs, all that among many others, Zamalek Island is a GEM in the heart of Cairo.
ENJOY...
