Owner description: After the Muslims conquered Egypt in 641 AD, they built their city, Al-Fustat, on what is now the southern border of modern Cairo. Today, this section of the city contains many important sites including the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, Mosque of al-Azhar and the Khan al-Khalili market, which is considered the heart of this area.

“Never been to a market like it!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

It is packed with everything and anything that you will ever need. the merchants are all trying to get you to buy their wares, but if you didn't buy from them they were respectful and still "welcomed us to Egypt".

“A glimpse of the old city”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

The walk from the northern to southern gates through the bazaar is more interesting than the bazaar itself. The old main street (now a small street or a dirt path) is full of fascinating architecture.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

My wonderful Tour Guide, Marwa Galal, provided a fabulous tour through this area and was very knowledgeable about the history of this area. I found it so interesting. Thanks, Marwa, for making my trip to Cairo and its wonderful sites so enjoyable.

“Pleasant to visit”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

Large and impressively carved mosques, thought the stonework in a bit drab, I have seen more colourful ones elsewhere. But worth seeing and atmospheric to be in the Citadel and wander the streets around, particularly at Ramadan
