“The very first Pyramid...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

There is so much to see here--I think Moses worked on this pyramid!
It is a "step-pyramid", like the ones you see at Chichen Itza and Tolum in the Yucatan--only older!

“A feat of Engineering”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

On our visit at the end of September, parts of the structure were covered in scaffolding - due to restoration work. It is in the open desert, no shade - so take water with you and a sun hat. Otherwise a remarkable experience, you marvel at how they built it.

“Great Excursion”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

Very impressive site with the most ancient pyramid of Egypt. The mural paintings inside the burial chambers are also worth a visit. Moreover we really enjoyed the journey to Saqqara which provided an interesting insight of rural Egypt.

“2 names for one Pyramid”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

This is also named as Saqqarah Step pyramid, and I suggest that "trip adviser" unites the name instead of having 2 items.
Also, it is not only the Pyramid atthe area of Saqqarrah, there are many tombs and the recently opened Serapium, which is the grave yard of the Holy Bull Abis.

“First step to the true-sided pyramid”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

Djoser's pyramid is very important in the history of ancient Egypt - piling mastaba after mastaba on top of one another was the first step in creating the first smooth sided pyramid. Overall the pyramid and grounds were very good, the pyramid itself was not a let down although there is always continued conservation being done - you could also go atop a balcony and see the shafts for the King's southern tomb. In the distance you could also make out the pyramids at Dahsuor. You can get quite close to the pyramid but not many people do, didn't see any toilets there either. Not as good as Giza, but historically a "must-see".
