“Cosy neighborhood with religious art”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

This neighborhood is quite small but has a very distinct vibe to it. Peaceful, clean, religious. It's easily available via metro (tickets cost only 1LE per person) if your hotel is near the red line. Fans of religious art will love this neighborhood, but it might present less interest for other groups of people. You can also venture in the adjoining streets and enjoy street Koshari (rice, lentils, fried onions and tomato sauce) or take

“Serene”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

So old. So serene. Beautiful churches and old houses on old lanes. Amazing to think Mary and Joseph passed through this way.

“Very interesting place”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

Very interesting place. Beautiful cave churches unexpectedly rise against the backdrop of Mokattam hills. Located in southeast Cairo, these Coptic Christian churches were created by the Zabbaleen, a community of garbage collectors who make their living collecting and recycling 15,000 tons of garbage produced by Cairo's 17.8 million residents.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

There is something about visiting a historical place rich with events from the past that were much written about. Coptic Cairo is a part of old Cairo which encompasses many historical places. Our guide took us to so many places that I cannot remember them all, but I do remember the Hanging Church, the intricate carved woodwork from the various coptic churches and the gorgeous murals. I wouldn't even attempt visiting this area without a guide - we would have gotten hopelessly lost and wouldn't have seen half the attractions we did, let alone understand anything.
