“Peaceful neighbors”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

I loved seeing how peaceful neighbors can be living side by side, Muslim, Christian, and Jewish. The visit was easy and quick if you're with a guide.

“Where's Boris Karloff?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

This is Egypt as it was. The old quarter with chickens, chaos, spices and bargains. Cairo is a mad, chaotic city but a visit to the Old City gives you a taste of what life used to be like here. I kept looking for the Mummy's shroud in the darkest recesses and fully expected to see old Boris Karloff walking around here; its that sort of atmosphere. Enjoy. I bought a fez here and I look pretty damn smart in it I reckon!

“Nice and easy access.”

Walking around Coptic Cairo is nice. Many cool places to see, especially the Hanging Church. The metro stops there, so you can get there easily. It does get crowed so chose an early time to go.

“Take your time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

There are alot of churches and historic structures in this area hidden away. At first glance, it seems like an area with dusty old hobo lanes. It is not. The food is great and if your new to this sorta thing, take a guide.

The locals choice of breakfast and lunch is great for those who don't feel like blowing their budgets all in one day. Koshari Hind is great, always look for it. It is a combination of rice, pasta, brown lentil muh, fried onions, and salsa.

Avoid the hawkers trying to sign you up for dinner cruises. They tend to be as fun as a boat ride with Charon to Hades. The food is always pre cooked and warmed up on board. The rice is all you tend to eat because the other stuff is so dry and underspiced. It is a common misconception that Egyptian food is really flavorful.

Yes this is a review about Old CIty Cairo but I enjoy complaining about other things nearby because it only takes a few seconds to make a wrong turn.

We did not know what to expect from this part of Cairo. We left a little disappointed. There is much to see, but I guess once you see the pyramids, nothing is as impressive.
