Owner description: Once known as the Roman stronghold of Babylon, Cairo’s oldest section is the ancient heart of the Coptic Christian community featuring five original churches, the first mosque built in Egypt and the oldest synagogue, all representing three of the major world religions.

stopped at a cafe for tea and stuck out among all the locals here, there aren't many tourists around. The church is very old and interesting. We saw several police in the area, there have been demonstrations, but only during the evening and night. We stayed away. Interesting to see how the locals go about their lives here. Worth seeing this area if you're interested in very old middle east architecture.

Coptic Cairo is a very serene place to be. It has a very different feel than the rest of Cairo. It is very easily accessible by metro and does not take very long to explore. The church is nice, but the cemetery is the place you need to visit.

This area was OK but you have to be interested in this type of tourist spot. Interesting features in the church but not a lot to see.

Not many tourists means a delightful break from pushy vendors! A great afternoon--the Coptic museum is well designed with great collections, St Sergius church and Ben Ezra synagogue provide moving counterpoint. Just walking through the neighborhood surrounding these sights was insightful. Highest concentration of troops/police of our Cairo visit, but not intrusive.

A walk around this area is a must. Made all that much better if you hire a guide for the day. The service in the Hanging Church was a highlight.
