“Heaven in Cairo”

This place is great. We intended to stay at the Hotel Longchamps but it was full, so we took a chance on the houseboat and loved it. Booked 2 rooms. We spent our time on the shared balcony staring out at the Nile. It was lovely, an oasis. While the rest of Cairo was smogged out, we breathed fresh air. No mosquitoes, probably because there is a breeze off the water even when the rest of Cairo air is still. There's a rowing club across the river so it's fun to watch the boats. It's a quick walk across the bridge to Zamalek and a cheap taxi (less than a dollar) home. Dan, the owner, arranged for airport pickup (recommended). He’s a great source of info on Cairo. Wifi was good. Stay here.

Room Tip: Bay window room is best and cheaper. Double room has the only double bed, with a small private balco...

A visit on the houseboat on the Nile offers you a unique experience. The over all feeling is cosy living , warmth and elegance combined with a great view over the nile as well as walking distance to the center of the town (if you don't mind a walk!) For the more comfortable guest the taxis stop right outside the boat and takes you to Salmalek in a couple of minutes.
The house boat offers great hospitaly and a familiar feeling with the hosts living in the same building, taking care of your needs as well as the local staff taking care of the place. There is no luxury just everything that you really need on a good vacation; warmth, hospitality, great location and Wifi!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a Nile-view!

I stayed here for 17 nights while reporting on the events in Cairo. The houseboat was my place of peace and calm after hectic days in Tahrir square. It was a real treat to get back and relax with a beer on the balcony overlooking the Nile. The crazy traffic and intense mood of Cairo felt very far away, even though Tahrir is only a 10 LE (1,5 USD) and ten minute taxi ride away. I highly recommend this cheap, clean and friendly place.

Room Tip: Rent apartment 4, it's nice to have your own kitchen and fridge.
