This is an incredible place that exposes you to a new view of the city. Driving up through Mokattam aka "garbage village" is an experience that I think everyone should go through. And then in the middle of this garbage-filled area is a beautiful church carved into a cave. There are two churches now - the original cave church and the newly built one that seats 70,000 people! The carvings are awesome and in a Muslim-centric country, it is pretty incredible to see Christian figures and sayings. I highly recommend driving through the smell and chaotic streets to this rewarding site!
