Khan El Khalili is the souk of Cairo, in the old part of the city, where the city was founded. There are thousands of shops selling all kind of typical articles, jewels, textiles, brass and souvenirs. Many cafés always full of people smoking shisha and eating. After 5PM is the busiest time.

All the cheap and cheesy souvenirs from across Egypt in one convenient location. Unless you are looking for a decorative sheesha, in which case you are in the right place, you are better off buying your souvenirs from a historical site so you can tell the recipient that you bought it at the pyramids or in the valley of the kings.

If you are feeling adventurous or maybe can speak a little Arabic, head inside the market further, it's a huge market selling everyday items to normal Egyptians from cell phones, to furniture, to kitchen appliances and clothes. Each type of item has its own section in the market.

If you seek for a cheap things to buy/eat, that;s a good place. But don't complain about the quality... Lots of people there so it's not easy to get through it sometimes. The sellers invite u all the time to visit their shops and buy sth. If interested, bargain a lot a lot! You will always hear trippled or doubled prices.
