The Hanging church or Virgin Mary church or The church of seven churches, all are the same.
This church is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, date back to the 4th century AD.
The church has been built on one of Babylon fortress in old Cairo, So they call it hanging church, it is high 13 M from the street level.
This church was very important because it was the main chair residence of the Pope till 10 th century A.D.

Now this is differnet than Islamic or Pharaohs monuments, yet will impress you to the max. A really, must see. Besides, most of the Coptic attractions are in Cairo, unlike Pharaos, so if you have sometime to spare while in the city GO there. The church has been recently rennovated and it is just great.

The church itself is very nice but the best thing is nobody is annoying you asking for some money or trying to steal you, like almost everywhere else in Cairo, so you can visit it and feel all the magic and peace of it. Everything is clean, including toilets, you can drink fresh water for free and the employees are really kind.

This is a very pretty Coptic Church. Looking down through the floor at the old Roman tower is was built above was neat, but my favorite part was the intricately carved walls, windows and doors. I also loved all the inlay and tile work. They were so beautiful, I just wanted to run my fingers over them all day.

I visited in March 2012. If you go to Coptic Cairo, this a must see while you are there. Go inside the church and find the room on the right that has a section of glass for the floor. You can see the old Roman Tower the church was built on!! I was there on a Sunday in the middle of services, so I wasn't able to explore as much as I wanted, but it was still a wonderful site to see.
