“A bit disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

Sad to say that I was a bit disappointed with this museum. Mainly because it was so crowded with hundreds of people there the day we went so sometimes difficult to see the exhibits. Plus it was stuffy, very dusty so we weren't always able to read the explanations. Some of the cases were cracked and some of the displays didn't have any explanations. The mummy's room however was amazing and I highly recommend spending the extra 100 EGP to see this and King Tut's room was incredible (as long as you had the patience to wait and see all the items) - the explanations here were at least a bit better. I'm not saying that you shouldn't as I think it is a must see while in Cairo, just wanted you to know what you're in for.

“Don't miss it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

The right order is first to visit the Gizeh plateau and then the museum. That way you can better understand the incredible treasures exhibited there. Hiring a guide at the entrance of the museum is really helpful and does not cost much (approx. 100 Egyptian pounds for one hour). If you spend more time you will have to pay the guide accordingly but it's worth to spend at least two hours in the museum.

“Fascinating artifacts in a sad museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

Okay, the artifacts in these museum is astonishing and so fascinating. Many objects are unique and are an absolute must to see. The downside is the sad and bad shape of the museum, lighting that does not work, painting falling off the wall and so on.

Still it is a must to visit and well worth the visit. If the Egyptian government would rebuild it (to something like the Asian Civilization Museum in Singapore) it would blow your mind. So go visit it!

“Fantastic museum!!”

Had a great time, and they have huge numbers of incredible antiquities. Just amazing. I liked the mummies, and King Tut's treasures. Wish I had more time there.
