I have visited this many times over the years while living in Cairo. The views across the city are incredible if it is a clear day, the citadel itself is very interesting with the mosque being the central attraction. I would avoid eating there but take yourself to the park beside it, ( it's the only park in Cairo) Dress conservatively avoiding bare shoulders, shorts etc

Thank providence

A fascinating insight into the History of Cairo from the days of the Ottoman rule. The Citadel sits at a high point overlooking Old Cairo and it's many ancient mosques along with views of the Pyramids when the air is not so smoggy.
Inside are some fascinating Museums with exhibitions of Egyptian history ranging from the islamic Museum, Military and Police Museum and some original tanks and aircrafts on display outside from the 2nd World War. Coffee shop and food is available on sight

I like to learn about an important period of Egypt`s history,Islamic era and about different dynasties that ruled the country and added to its heritage of great buildings.I am impressed by the massive area of the citadel and the huge towers surrounding it.Also I like the Alabaster mosque of Mohamed Ali with its unique design and expensive decoration materials and rich decoration motives.Last is the amazing panoramic view of Cairo and Giza from a terrace just out side the mosque.

There is lot to know about Egyptian history. its a nice tourist place to visit but with a condition you hire a guide who gives you all the information about it. There is kodak store where u can get yourself clicked in famous King & Queen of attire which really gives you a feel of Egyptain King & Queen.
