“Mosque and Museum”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

We missed this attraction on first day, it closes at around 4:30-5pm. We came back next day. It has great museum and nice mosque. Nice day outing. Food options are bit expensive here, so you can plan it post or pre lunch. I would recommend pre lunch as you need to walk a lot.

Duration of visit: 4-6 hrs
Entry fees: Yes
How to reach?: Car
Can you take pictures?: Yes
Souvenir to purchase: Yes; but not great options. You should visit local market in Cairo for good ones

“Historical mosque and surroundings”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Interesting to visit and see the main mosque, including inside (ladies, bring a scarf and dress conservatively or be prepared to be made to wear a long robe - 5 LE fee - if you want to enter the mosque and mosque compound). We did not visit the military and police museums, but have heard they are nice.

It was 60 LE to enter the Citadel compound, and for an extra fee, a cart could be rented for travel around the compound (which didn't seem the big).

I wouldn't consider this a must-see during a visit to Cairo - it was nice, but other mosques around the world (particular in Istanbul) are much more grand.

“Interesting Historic Place”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

The architecture is very interesting. It's hard to capture the intricacy of the craftsmanship with an iPhone. The views are expansive. This is a must visit location.

“Wow, beautiful!”
Reviewed February 14, 2014

The Citadel is a gorgeous place to visit. The architecture of the place is gorgeous. The history of it awes the visitors. Driving by it at night, seeing it light up is like a movie. Beautiful!

“The magnificent fortification object over the city”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

After the very pleasant rest, that we spent in the Al Azhar Park, we followed to the Cairo Citadel, that is located on one hill in the vicinity of the Park. That Salah Ed -Din Citadel is in fact the Saladin Citadel of Cairo, a mediavel Islamic fortification, named after the glorious islam ruler in the beginning of XII century. Saladin, ruler of the Ayyubid dynasty, fortified this Citadel, to protect this fortress from the Crusaders. The hill,on which is the Citadel, is called Mokattam, and is very popular among the locals and the visitors for its fresh breeze and formidable views of the city.
Beside that, here, there are some mosques and museums, worth of visiting. The Citadel also contains the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, that is perched on the summit of the citadel.
That was just the effective ending of the first day in charming city of Cairo.
