was is cairo from 27th june to 2nd of july 2012. Very pleasant. Clean Room 406. Breakfast modest. Wifi not in room which was a disapointment, you can only use only at the reception. Bell boys okay. Reception staff proffessional. Taxi service okay from hotel booking. Thanks. Will visit again.

The President Hotel is clean enough, spacious enough, with helpful enough staff. When the water in our room didn't work on arrival we were upgraded to a bigger room with a view over the Nile... however the airconditioning only dropped the room to maybe 30'C. The small buffet breakfast is slightly above average for Egypt. The staff brought hot tea to our room when we were sick with a tummy bug which was nice.

The main plus is the relatively cheap price for Zamalek island, a relatively safe location to walk at night with a plethora of upmarket restaurants and cafes. More expensive than downtown, but still less expensive than home. A good choice given we arrived the day after the election results.

Room Tip: Ask for a Nile view, check the aircon and water pressure early.

Went during troubled times in the country, but always felt safe here. Rooms are spacious, but they seem to have seen better days. Fraying a bit at the edges - perhaps because tourist arrivals are down drastically. Otherwise clean and comfortable. Helpful staff, a bit overpowering at times. room service could be better. Value for money, though.

I visit Egypt and Cairo on business trips very often. After the "democracy" came to the country, there are no more tourists in Cairo, many hotels are closed or being reconstructed.
A friend of mine (an owner of a big 5 stars hotel at pyramids area had to do the same...) recommended me PRESDIDENT hotel in Zamalek. Zamalek is a lovely area of Cairo and it is still a very safe place. Of course it is crowded (many schools) but still very pleasant for walking, shopping or drinking. It is the only part of Cairo where in winter you can feel the X-mas atmsphere. There live and work many foreigners (Embassies, offices).
President Hotel is a good place to stay when you come for a short business trip. There is a homely atmosphere, the rooms are OK, breakfest as well - comparing the price. And you are still in a real and safe centre of the city. I am quite sure that I stay in this hotel during my next trip to Cairo.

I was visiting Cairo on business Trip with my friends and we need to attended office in the centre of Cairo, so this hotel is the perfect location as it's on the Zamalak Nile Island. Can be hard to move around at peak times as traffic is busy, but you can walk to everything you need. We did have time to pop into Giza zoo, amazing!

The rooms and hotel of course old, but great value for money. Breakfast nice enough and thats all you need as loads of places out and about to eat, some great on the nile boats!

We did stay and extra night and booked via reception, turned out it would have been cheaper to book the extra night online, but no problem, only a few pounds different.

Would go again.

The hotel in a decent part of cairo (Zamalek), its easy to go from the hotel to most attractions in cairo , apart from the pyramids and Sakkara, by taxi, there are many nearby restaurants and cafes. The hotel is famus for its pub (the cellar), where you can have a very good food from 12.30 PM till 2AM, beside the drinks and music. It has a restaurants at the roof, where the breakfast is served and you can have lunch and dinner there, but the quality of food is less than that at thje cellar. The rooms are average, and some are small, The furniture is modest. Some rooms have nice view, but many don't. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with large balcony and view and check the air codition before you unpack

The President Hotel was an ideal affordable home base for exploring Cairo. My room was clean and comfortable, the staff and management were helpful and responsive. Most amenities not available in the hotel were within a few blocks--the Zamalek neighborhood is very accessible and friendly to a non-Arabic-speaking foreign visitor.

I would particularly recommend the driver I hired via the hotel, Khaled Abd Rabow, who was extremely punctual and dependable, speaks fluent English and Spanish, and is knowledgeable Egyptology and Egyptian history as well as expert in navigating the complex layout of the city.
