The Ramses Hilton in Cairo just around the corner from Tahrir Square is in itself, a smart, comfortable hotel. Ideally situated if you need to be near the centre of town. Staff are excellent, but this has been my experience throughout Egypt in all the hotels and restaurants no matter size or class.
However, the pool is too small and situated on the road side of the hotel thus making it a very noisy pool experience not to mention windy, which would be fine on a sizzling day were it not for the dust and grime that hits you from the passing traffic, its as though you’re being sandblasted!
Also, internet is very pricey but worst of all, is the noise from the pleasure boats that are moored on the river just in front of the hotel. Around 4pm music is blasted from some mega music system and continues to pound through the night into the small hours, sometimes until 4am.
This, despite the double glazing, makes sleeping at night something of a hardship and a cross between living in some kind of Moulin Rouge nightmare and the CIA’s attempt of perforating General Noriegar’s eardrums with Iron maiden 24hrs a day.
