Stayed here in june of this year 2012. A most amazing hotel. The beds were so comfortable and the staff so helpful and accomodating. The district of Zamalak was to be recommended.
There are several restaurants to choose from and we tried them all over a period of 7 nights. The French restaurant was good and the Italian restaurant was marvellous with really helpful staff. The wine prices were very reasonable compared to Uk prices. another option was Roys Kitchen, where you could get burghers/chips etc. very tasy and kind, professional service.
The outside terrace was good too for a quiet lunch or evening meal . Also an Egyptian restaurant with traditional cooking which appeared to be popular. The Bakery was great for breakfast if a full breakfast was not required.

The room was fine and overlooking the Nile which was fascinating in the night. The wonderful swimming pool was a bonus with lovely changing rooms. Apparently the main building was built as a palace for Princess Eugenie, wife of Napoleon the third (? ) when she came to Egypt to open the Suez Canal. The whole interior is very grand.

Security was tight as there were demos going on against the Government when we were there. we were advised not to go into central Cairo and to keep away from Tahir Square where the demos were occurring. This was a bit of a bummer as that is where the National Museum is and I wanted to seen the Tutenkahmun artifacts. Perhaps next time as we will definately return.

We hired a car with driver from the hotel pool and were very pleased with the service. Took us to the Pyramids at Gizza. Saw the S[phinx and other pyramins and museums. Wonderful experience. Watch out for the hassles received from Guides at the Pyramid site.

Also hired cars to take us to the Railway station to go to Alexandria and were waiting for us when we returned.
A wonderful experience. Typical Marriott attention to detail.

Room Tip: Choose a high room overlooking the Nile for a breathtaking experience. Also stayed the first few day...

Dear Mrs. Pamela,

Thank you very much for your detailed feedback on your stay at the Cairo Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino. We are delighted that your stay was an enjoyable one.

As you mentioned, The Cairo Marriott Hotel houses a historical Palace. Originally built by Khedive Ismail Pasha for the inauguration of the Suez Canal celebrations in 1869, Al Gezirah Palace received European monarchs, including Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III, and was the venue for the first performance of Verdi’s Opera Aida.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to share your recent experience at our hotel and we hope to welcome you back to the Palace in the near future.

The Cairo Marriot is absolutely amazing. As another reviewer commented, the one million thread count cotton sheets on their comfortable beds were worth traveling to Egypt just to sleep on them. The hotel is stunning. I believe that there were 14 restaurants within the hotel. We did not have time to try them all but we loved the Sushi Bar, the Bakery, Roy's Country Kitchen, and the poolside restaurant. We also took another reviewer's advice and upgraded to an executive floor room (above the 15th floor) with a Nile View. Loved everything about this hotel and give it a 5 star rating in every category. It is nothing like any Marriots we've seen in the U.S.

As part of our trip to all the historic spots, was recommended to stay a few nights in the Zamalek area. After dusty roads of Jordan and the SInai, the Marriots ambience and comfort was like an oasis.
Must say the what -ever count Eygptian cotton sheets on the amazing beds in the garden suites were like floating in clouds. We loved it so much that we would have carried it us throughtout our whole trip down the Nile.
The restaurants were at best mediocre in terms of the variety but it was a far superior Marriot then any in London or US.
Its proximity to the Cairo Museum and Giza makes it a great calming espate from the hustle and bustle of Cairo sight seeing.
And oh mum and me got invited to a wedding dinner one night which was lovely.
Will definately stay there again.

Room Tip: The garden suites!

This hotel is fantastic. We stayed here during our trip to Egypt in 2010 and we have just returned from our second trip to Egypt and our second stay at the Marriott. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The rooms are lovely (be aware the Nile View Rooms on the lower floors can be a little noise due to traffic). I would either ask for a Palace View Room or pay the extra for a Garden Room. The staff are very friendly the resturants fantastic and the Gardens a lovely respite from such a busy city The postion on Zamalek Island is a little more comfortable for wandering the streets around the hotel without the hassles from vendors. Overall this is one of the loveliest hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay in.

I have stayed at this hotel for the second time in three years and my very positive assessment was only confirmed. Cairo is a lively city any time and the contrast with wide set of refreshing garden restaurants in the yard provides a unique and quiet complement. The Egyptian food was served by well organized staff and had not resulted in any health problems.
