A friend and partner brought me to the place...a bit hidden in the streets of Cairo. Entering I felt like beeing in Korea - because 85% of the guest were Koreans! A good sigh, i thought. And so it was. The atmosphere might be a bit strange, sort of a waiting hall....But then I got surprised!Had great shrimps with spicy sauce for 6 US, with some rice for 80 cents.... we drank a beer (in Ramadan) and we have been absolutely nicely treated. I will definitely come again. It might be a really secret tip!!!

Living in Cairo means a constant battle for finding good quality foods, and although I know a few good places, Gaya tops them all. The meat is good quality, the spices are just right (not too spicy) and the mix brings out flavors wonderfully.

The restaurant labels itself as Korean-Chinese-Japanese, but unfortunately, all the food is mixed up, so non-connoisseurs would not know what is Chinese vs. Korean, for example. Another sign of the good food: it's frequented by the Cairo's small Asian community.

Authentic! Fresh! Good service. And when you see Koreans flocking to this place you know you've found nirvana!

This is my restaurant of choice when it comes to Korean food in Cairo. They make their own ban-chan (side dishes) so it's fresh. They make their own rice cakes. You cannot get rice cakes anywhere in Cairo except here, because there are none.

The service is always great. They will accommodate to anything you want and they will come to serve you whenever you call them. You can ring the service bell at your table and they will come straight away.

The food is great. Dolsot bibimbap is good. It's a mixed bowl of rice, veggies, meat served in a hot stone bowl with a side of soup. All their soup dishes are good. Try their BBQ at the table for a cool experience. I believe they may have pork here from time to time. Very tasty in a Muslim country where sometimes it's hard to find pork.

If you're a regular customer, they often will give you a free appetizer without you asking.

Highly recommended!

I've lived in Maadi for 6 months, and eat at Gaya almost one a week. They have quality sushi and delicious bulgogi, though their stir fries are only so-so. They do serve beer, and if you're lucky, they'll have some shoju on hand. The larger location on Rd. 218 is perfect for families, while the smaller one (rd. 253) is more intimate.
