Usually we find our way around cities without any guides or organised tours, but I was worried about negotiating my way around Cairo in the current political climate, so I did the research and contacted a number of guides before we left the UK.
Rasha's responses were quick, friendly, and considered; she certainly seemed to take on board what we wanted to do, rather than offer a pre-designed tour and this, combined with her gender, made me think she'd be our best option. So we arranged meeting times and prices (she even offered to pick us up at the airport, but that was a service we didn't need) and ensured she had contact numbers.
When we were picked up at the airport by our company rep and he stopped talking to us once we explained we'd already engaged Rasha in advance as our tour guide, we began to wonder if we'd done the right thing. But this was clearly just about the competition for work in Cairo, which proved to be very quiet (apart from the local traffic, which means we were very grateful for the skill and patience of Rasha's driver). We had no issues with Rasha at all. She even let us know when the weight of traffic meant she'd be delayed by 5 minutes.
We spent 2 1/2 days with Rasha. She designed our itineraries with thought and her commentaries were peppered with humour. She never rushed us. And she always asked what sort of food establishment we'd prefer (never recommending anywhere that gave us an upset tummy). We covered the three major pyramid sites, in chronological order, which helped our understanding of the developing skills of the builders and designers and the economic and sociological drivers better than if we'd just tried to get to Giza early. She took the same approach to Islamic and Christian Cairo. And she was invaluable in helping negotiate the immensity of the Cairo museum.
Price wise, there doesn't seem to be much difference between guides; and since all guides have to be qualified (Rasha began as an archaeologist) it isn't easy to choose between guides in Egypt. But with nearly 20 years' experience, good English, and a wide appreciation of the history, culture and politics of her country, I would thoroughly and confidently recommend Rasha's services.

Rasha was one of the best tour guides we have ever enjoyed anywhere in the world. She understood very quickly what we wanted to achieve during our time in Cairo and came up with a great itinerary to fit everything in, plus extra things that we wouldn’t have thought of but where great additions. Without asking her to she planned our days in accordance with all the best advice available on Tripadvisor and other sites like taking us to Giza in the afternoon to avoid the tour bus rush and having us in pleasant eating areas around lunchtime rather than the middle of the desert. Her personality and approach were perfect for us who prefer to travel independently but were a bit trepidatious about navigating the Egyptian touts and tipping system. She didn’t waste any of our time with papyrus “museums” and carpet “schools” which we really appreciated as holiday time is too precious to waste feigning polite interest while your guide watches you fend off a heavy sales pitch by one of their friends. She was a little more expensive than some of the other tours we approached but in her case you really get what you pay for!

There may be some bigger names in excursions to the great sites of the Cairo area...but I can't imagine anyone handling things better than Egypt Daily Tours. My wife and I visited Alexandria with the Norwegian Jade on Nov 22 & 23...so we booked a day long tour for the 22nd.

We were fortunate to have Rasha El-Ashmawy as our guide. She runs the company...we were happy to support a woman run business. Especially one that was so well operated.

Our day started quite early in Alexandria. We met with the driver Rasha had sent, and began the nearly 3 hour drive to Giza to meet up with Rasha at the Pyramids. (It's beyond the scope of this review...but be ready for the unbelievable traffic. NO traffic lights or stop signs. No exaggeration. It was like being on a thrill ride for 3 solid hours.) We arrived intact and were immediately whisked to the site. We spent a couple of hours visiting the pyramids. We did go into the Great Pyramid...it isn't much to see, really, but just thinking that you're INSIDE a freakin' pyramid is an experience you shouldn't deny yourself. It's more expensive than actually visiting the site...but hey, you've come all this way.)

After stopping close to each pyramid, we went to the spot where there is a panoramic view of all 3. At this location, you can also take a camel ride into the desert (by "into the desert", we're talking a quarter mile). $5 apiece, after Rasha negotiated the price. Well worth it. We did some touristy gift shopping here at well, and Rasha helped us negotiate reasonable prices. Then we visited the Sphynx. While there, the driver went off to get us lunch, which we ate in the car while traveling to Saqqara. Rasha spent some time during this drive talking to us about modern culture, including explaining the differences between citizens of the country and the cities. VERY interesting stuff.

Saqqara is a fantastic site. In some ways, it is the equal of the pyramids of Giza. It is a must-see, in my opinion. We spent a couple of hours there and managed to beat most of the tour buses, as we had at Giza. This is one of the great things about NOT taking the ship excursion...you get everywhere faster and have more time there with smaller crowds. I won't go into details about the site...but Rasha gave us very interesting descriptions throughout and we just had the best time.

We then visited Memphis, which is a small site. It's not a must-see, but it is near Saqqara and rounded out the day pleasantly. The other site I might have like seeing (but we had not signed up for and were out of time anyway) was Dashour. We saw the pyramids at a distance.

Then we dropped Rasha up near her place in Giza and made the 3 hour trek back to Alexandria. It was a long and exhausting day (about 13 hours from leaving ship to reembarking)...but it was a blast. Rasha is a great guide. Her English is quite good and easy to understand. She is SUPER knowledgible (an Egyptologist) and is a fun person. We enjoyed getting to know her...and she found a Starbucks for us so we could get a relative who collects city mugs a mug. Total price as under $300 for the two of us!!! Much cheaper than a bus tour with 50 other folks. Absolutely worth every penny, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Rasha and Egypt Daily Tours to anyone. She has many itineraries to choose from (I'm glad we didn't choose one that included the museum in Cairo, because it was next to the riots going on in Tahrir Squire!)...and runs a great ship. She is also clearly well known at the sites. Lots of folks around greeted her as an old friend, and I must say, we enjoyed seeing how she tolerated no cr*p from any of the vendors. She was an engaging mother hen for us.

Only quibble, and it's pretty small...her driver spoke essentially no English...so when we had our time just with him and everything around us was so noisy and crowded and alien...we couldn't ask questions or get reassurances. Not a big deal...he was also very pleasant and somehow managed to navigate all that traffic and get us home in one piece.

After deciding to take a 1 day trip to Cairo during our holiday in Hurghada, we contacted Rasha at Egypt Daily Tours for a 1 day private tour. Even in such a short notice ( a couple of days), she managed to prepare everything for us.

After picking us up from the airport we headed 1st to Sakkara, then to Giza and finally to The egyptian museum. We found her to be a solid professional. Even local people we talked to confirmed she'st he best quide in Cairo :).
She offered a lot of information about both the ancient egypt and today's Egypt. We absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for private guided tours in Cairo.
