We used Casual Cairo detours for seven days of touring in Cairo in March, 2011. We spent considerable time emailing Debbie, the owner, back and forth planning our days of tours. She had lots of great ideas and was very flexible in meeting our needs. We almost cancelled our trip when the revolution began in January, but we felt that things had quieted down by early March so we travelled as planned. We were so glad that we did! The Egyptian people were so warm and friendly and also very proud of what they had accomplished.
Three of our tours were with Ahmed, an Egyptologist. He was very knowledgeable and spoke English with almost an American accent. We had no trouble understanding him which was not the case with the guide that we had for our Nile cruise (not arranged by Casual Cairo detours). Jim was our guide for 3 days. He was also very knowledgeable and even knew some of the guards which allowed us to get into special areas. Debbie was our guide for one day. We spent most of that day in and around Khan al-Khalili. Debbie knew a number of the merchants there, so we felt that we were able to purchase some special items at good prices.
Normally, we are pretty independent travellers, but in Egypt we felt that we needed local experts to help us get around. We were so glad that we did. The traffic in Cairo is crazy, we do not speak any Arabic, and it would have been impossible to try to do all that we did on our own. All in all, we felt that using Casual Cairo detours really enhanced our trip to Cairo. We would highly recommend them!

My wife, 10 year old daughter and I used Casual Cairo Detours in November 2010. We had a fantastic experience. The trip to the pyramids/sphinx was a private trip with car, driver and a local egyptologist.

The tour was set up in chronological order (oldest pyramids first). Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot about the pyramids, ancient Egyptian culture as well as current daily life in Egypt. Our guide was very generous with sharing information about her personal life.

It gave us great comfort dealing with an English speaking person. Having a local tour guide was invaluable. All in all, a fantastic experience.

I have used Casual Cairo Detours a number of times over the last few years. The company can provide expert egyptologists to see the pyramid fields at Gaza or Saqqara and to guide you around the national museum. They can provide lower key trips like picnics on felluca boats cruising the Nile. My best trip was an obscure one: out to the desert to see the Coptic monasteries at Wadi Natrun. Debbie Senters, the company owner is full of contacts and ideas. She will try to match you to the experience you want in a totally unpackaged way. I can't wait until my next Cairo weekend!

My hubby and I just got back from Cairo and Luxor Egypt and had a fabulous time. From the time we planned the trip and got in touch with her, until the time we left Egypt we were well taken care of and felt totally comfortable in a culture that we were totally unfamiliar with. Being Active Duty Military my hubby had some concerns but Debbie and her guides Moement and Ahmed aswell as her driver Tauriq always made us feel safe and comfortable in their care. We were met at the Airport right on time and whisked from our hotel to various locations around Cairo, and even flew for a day trip to Luxor always in the capable hands of her guides.
