“Excellent breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

Much smaller overall than the other five-star hotels in Cairo, some of the rooms are also on the small side.

But the rooms have great views of the Nile and they're very clean. Staff is friendly and very professional. The breakfast is abundant and delicious, also with a fantastic view.

Check in was quick, efficient and friendly. Staff are very friendly. I went to the concierge twice to ask them questions and both times, they didn't know the answer. I asked for a tourist map of the city and they printed me off a terrible map from the computer. I would have expected a 5 star hotel to be able to provide a map!

Hotel is good in general but not as great as I expected from the Kempinski chain. The hotel itself is not very big big and doesn't have the "grand" feel of a luxury hotel. While my room was clean, comfortable and well decorated, it was quite small. Staff were pleasant and friendly but it seems that their definition of 5 star service is greeting you by your name and doesn't go much beyond that. I stayed for over 2 weeks and while the same waiters greeted me by name every morning at breakfast, I still had to flag them down and ask for coffee and orange juice which I had every single morning. Breakfast buffet was exactly the same every day. A little boring if you're there for more than a few days. Views from the restaurant overlook the Nile and are fantastic.

Pool was closed for maintenance when I was there but I wouldn't have used it anyway. Very unimpressive small pool with a few chairs around it.

Like I said, hotel was good in general and my complaints are rather small.

The Kempinski is well situated right on the Corniche and river front rooms have splendid Nile views. The bar and restaurant on the 10th floor are excellent - views from this vantage point are enchanting.

Unfortunately, current views also include the demonstrations and tear gas clouds. While Egypt continues in political and social turmoil, hotel occupancy has plummeted and deals are very advantageous.

Service was consistently excellent through my week-long stay. The business center is well appointed and staff are always on hand to help.

The ‘spa’ is tiny but well set up. Massage treatment rooms are state of the art.

Overall, a lovely hotel, with warm and welcoming staff who really know what they are doing. A rare pleasure.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor Nile views.

I was definitely spoiled at the Kempinski. It was a haven in the hectic, smoggy city. The room was beautifully appointed and spacious. The chandelier added to the luxurious feeling. The bed was very comfortable. The best I slept on while in Egypt. There was butler service and I could call at any time to request complimentary coffee and tea. The fridge was stocked with free sodas. The TV had a lot of channels and free movies to choose from. The free wifi worked great. The staff was friendly and helpful. I didn't have a problem with outside noise. Maybe I was up high enough or am not as sensitive as other reviewers. The complementary breakfast was delicious and there was a wide variety to choose from; pastries, fruit, eggs made to order. My massage at the spa was fantastic. After my treatment I was able to enjoy the jacuzzi, a steam room and a sauna. There is a rooftop pool with gorgeous views of the city. I recommend checking it out at night when the city is all lit up.
As American females there were some concerns over our safety. But all of the people we encountered were friendly. The hotel did have a metal detector at the entrance for added security. We were hesitant to go out alone but felt safe when accompanied by our tour guides. We were there over Eid-al-Adha and the excitement in the city was overwhelming. It was recommended that we not venture out that night.
Cairo was my least favorite city in Egypt, so it was nice to have the comforts of the Kempinski. I definitely recommend the beach resorts on the Red Sea. They were gorgeous and relaxing.

Given the dirt, dust, bustle and noise of Cairo the Kempinski was a very welcome, first class professional hotel, beautifully appointed with welcoming staff and great views over the Nile. We do not recognise the review about poor service but would agree with the comments about taking a guide or professional Egyptologist (ours was a very well educated and polite woman called Dina) around the sites, which is much the best way to be informed without the hassle. Despite being on the eighth floor and the room's double glazing one can still hear the Cairenes' incessant car honking, but an awful lot less - would recommend silicon earplugs if you need perfect peace!
We were there in mid January only a few weeks after the pre referendum protests in Tahrir Square and tourism was very quiet. Still some tents left in the square but everything seemed very safe and peaceful with the the Constitution having been voted for. Probably still wiser not to go to the square after dark but everywhere else was safe and relaxed, even after dark. The media pictures don't refect how limited the areas of trouble were, even in Cairo, while giving no idea of how safe and unaffected most of the rest of Egypt - probably significantly safer than one's own home town, crazy Egyptain drivers aside!! However, with tourism being really down and likely to remain so for a while we cant imagine a better time to see the truly amazing ancient sights that this country has to offer from the Pyramids, to the Temples of Luxor and the beauty of the Nile in Aswan, especially if you can afford to take a trip on the Nile in a dahabiya as well!
Just a tip when choosing breakfast - it is not necessarily clear when you are ordering from their beautiful and extensive breakfast range what your choices are (they vary a lot in price) and you could end up paying twice the price you need to just by choosing one "wrong" extra item!

Nice hotel, but not recommended if you are travelling from Europe or US.
Most BORING bar ever, no nightlife, no International vibe.

Very good if you like a quiet place and you want to spend the rest of your stay inside your room.

Extremely overpriced drinks.
