I lived in Cairo for a year and ate a lot of pizza. This place has the best pie. Three reasons why:

1. Pork. Maison Thomas is run by Christians, so you get pork on your pizza, unlike at the horrible pizzas served by the chains in Cairo.
2. Real ingredients. The chains use disgusting, processed ingredients, while this place uses real ingredients and makes each pie fresh to order.
3. Big portions.

However, this is not like the pizza you're used to at home. It's good, but open your mind to accept that it isn't Domino's or even really Italian.

I ate at this restaurant twice because its a close walking distance to the Marriott Hotel in Zamalek and was recommended in the Frommer's Guide book. I ate a pretty decent grilled chicken breasts the first time. I ate an unusual pizza the second time. Usually, pizza toppings are mixed together across the whole pizza. The Maison Thomas pizza had single toppings on each section of the pizza. In other words, one section of pizza was calamari only, another section olives only, etc.. The pizza was tasty and the crust pretty good but it was a little unusual.

A couple of cautions about this place. They do not have a rest room. So make sure you go before you go here. They do not take credit cards and they do not serve alcohol. It also gets pretty crowded in the evenings. Lunches seem quite empty.

Stopped in for an excellent dinner of sandwiches and pizzas. Excellent value (just a little more than you would pay for drinks at the chain hotels). The portions are huge! Two people could easily get by on a small pizza and two sodas. Same is true for the sandwiches (good, but a step down from the Paul sandwich shops in France). The sign says it was built in 1922 and you certainly get that feel from the tiled floors, bar stool seats, and aproned wait staff - very charming.
