Novotel Cairo El Borg

Our room was facing Nile. It was too noisy besides the great view.
The hotel is probably 3 years old, but the rooms looks like 13 years extensively used.
No wifi, but free secure parking.

The hotel needs more for verdict like good value for money.

My wife and I stayed here for one night for a romantic getaway. Since we work and live in Cairo, we were very familiar with this area. But leaving the kids home alone with a babysitter for one night was truly pristine and relaxing.

POSITIVES:
- This property offers free guarded outdoor parking for its guests. This is great since in Cairo downtown, it is so difficult to find parking.
- Pool area: there is an outdoor heated pool for guests' enjoyment. We went end of November, but the pool was not too cold at all. We only wished the jacuzzi next to the pool was hotter temperature. It was the same temperature as the pool. But this pool area was so relaxing. The lounge chairs offered you a peaceful time to lay down, read, or sleep. And there was no noise or lots of kids screaming. The pool is quite petite, but just enough for a nice little dip. Nobody came to ask if we wanted poolside drinks or snacks, so that would be good. However, it was peaceful since my wife didn't feel like employees were always there watching her in her swimsuit.
- Location: this hotel is awesome for its location. It is on the island of Zamalek, that has many Nile Boats that have many other top-notch restaurants in them. They are all a walk away. You can also walk across the bridge to go to Tahrir square and other Nileside locations. It is right next to the Cairo Opera House, so you can enjoy an evening at the Opera or Symphony or any fine arts performances for the evening. [Actually, I think Novotel should offer a Cairo Opera House package to attract more guests, including a B&B, Opera tickets, and Room. It would be really good for people to come there for this purpose.
- Decor: very nice modern and chic decor. We were on the non-smoking floor, but our room upon entering smelled still of some smoke. After complaining about it, they sent housekeeping to spray the room with a nice fresh apple scent and the smell was taken care of. thanks for that.
- Travel Agent: although we didn't use them, there is a nice travel agent on ground in the lobby to help you and assist you with any sightseeing tours and transportation. It is really handy.
- Free Upgrade: After telling them this was our tenth anniversary, we were given a free upgrade to a Nile-side river view room. It was excellent and quite generous.

NEGATIVES:
-The biggest negative was that my wife wanted to get a massage, but there was only a male on staff and so they could not give one for females. Understaffed.
-Friday night, there is loud music coming from across the street till about midnight on the river view side. If this bothers you, get a city view room.
-no poolside service and initially smelly smoky room.
-Roof terrace bar was under construction, so instead we ordered room service in our room and watched the city from our window. Roof was too cold anyway at this time.

Room Tip: Ask for Nileview room if you don't have it already. Ask for free complimentary upgrade. It helps...

If you are tourist or businessman it is one of the best hotel to stay. It is very closed to Tahrir and Pyramids and connections to highways.
its entrance is not good, but it is for security.
You can book cheaper from net.

We enjoyed our stay for four days during our recent tour of Egypt. The location of the hotel is excellent and the Nile view rooms at the upper floor provides nice view of the river along with the fun activities on its strand. The food quality of the restaurant at the ground floor are nice and we found nothing to compliant about. It is very near to tarir square, just 5 minutes walk on the other side of the river through the bridge, where you can find KFC, McDonald and pizza hut for your appetite.

We made online booking direct from the website for a 3 nights 4 days. We had requested a connecting room and an early checked in and we received a confirmation that they are happy to provide us with an early check in and that the request on the connecting room will be of high priority. When we checked in, unfortunately the reception at the counter had no clue on the early check in requests and the connecting room. She was reluctant to entertain us until I showed her the email confirmation from the hotel. Aren't our requests should already shown in our bookings? An hour pass and finally we got a room. By then the reception was smiling and she was nice in the end.

When we called from our room to the information desk- we had questions about restaurants to eat nearby or where to get a boatride but we were not given the information we needed. Of course you like to sell your hotel restaurant but when we ask a specific question we would appreciate a more or less an answer not related to the services or facilities you have at your hotel. We find that frustrating,so we resort in finding our own information on the internet.

The rooms are decent, clean with great views either facing the nile or facing cairo tower. The food is also good with reasonable price (only that for room service it can take a while then expected). I guess some of the same staff are multitasking few job.

We loved the location as it was within walking distance to downtown and tahrir square, the metro, a few steps away to get to the boat or to a nice bar scene in zamalek.

A good hotel in downtown. Stayed here on business for 21 days. It is on a zamalek island near to tahrir square. The location is good if you plan to roam around the city or visit the pyramids, but if you are on business I would not recommend to stay here as the traffic around the area is very bad and it was a pain to travel to the industrial areas like 6th oct or heliopolis. Another disadvantage on the location is the absence of restaurants, the nearest of which were around 1 km away so you couldn't just step out to eat and had to plan. But I liked the breakfast and the food served in the hotel so used to order a lot of room service. The rooftop cafe was good and very popular with the local elite and the young. The staff is polite friendly and courteous. A problem I faced was that there was no indicator outside the rooms to know if the rooms were occupied and three times the staff just walked in on me. That was crazy. But overall the facilities were nice. I would have stayed here again but opted out just because the traffic around the area drove me crazy.

Room Tip: They can upgrade you to a Nile view room at no extra cost. go for it if poss
