It's quite uncommon, specially in Egypt, to find hotels in which the "private" space, i.e. rooms, is better kept than the common areas, i.e. halls, restaurant bars etc... This is the case: the entrance looks poor and you have to rise to the 5th floor by elevator to find the hotel, but house keepers, waiters and all the staff are very good, helpful and efficient. My 2 children and I stayed there for 5 nights and the room 515 was always cleaned up in a flash. Laudry is the cheaper and faster I've never found. Wi-Fi Internet connection is very good everywhere in the hotel and it's for free.
I red some people complaining about the noise from the street: well, you cannot stay in the very centre of a town like Cairo pretending to stop the traffic that animates the city 24h a day!
Actually to admire the town from the balcony, while hundreds of crazy cars are horning in a traffic that seems more an elemental force than a movement of cars, it's part of the show IMHO.

Great location in down town Cairo opposite the Museum. Nothing flash but good value and the staff are excellent. Would stay again just for the location.

I booked City View for 2 nights before before arriving in Egypt. After 10 days travel this ranks as my number 1 hotel in Egypt! As others have mentioned the staff are friendly, helpful and genuine and the facilities (ie. internet/air conditioning) are modern and functional.

Guides and excursions can be booked through Mr Salam. They are well qualified and provide an informative and enjoyable experience.

NOTE -All prices are ngotiable!

We stayed at the City View Hotel for one night in August - we were on an overnight trip to Cairo from Dahab, where we spent most of our holiday.

We checked in early and although the room was not ready but the hotel gave us another which we could use to freshen up and leave our bags.

The hotel was in a very good location across the road from the Cairo museum and less than a 10 minute walk to the Nile where feluccas were moored. It was about a 15-20 minute drive to the Khan al-Khali.

The room was a bit on the small side for the 4 of us but it was only for one night. We found the hotel to be very quiet but did hear a bit a traffic noise (where in Cairo don't you?) however, the beds very very comfy and we slept well. The A/C was very efficient and very quiet. A bulb kept flashing from the ceiling light which was annoying but we reported it to reception and they came and replaced it straight away.

The breakfast was very good in the morning. The staff were very pleasant and friendly.

All in all, a nice little reasonably priced hotel in the centre of Cairo.

Central location to all activities in our itenerary. Walk to dining and to museum. Great views from balconey. Hotel staff overly friendly and very pushy towards using a guide they they knew. With that said great price and good location just go having your own plans.

I am a 65 year old woman and i was lucky to find City View Hotel through "Tripadvisor". The staf were most courteous and most helpful. Breakfast was excellent, even to any omelet you wanted cooked for you. Dinner was very good as well, especially the lamb. I took their their package deal. They were at the airport with a sign to pick me up. iIwas the only person who had signed up for the tour those days and they still had a private van to take me and their English speaking guide everywhere. It is not a frills hotel, but it is air conditioned, spotless, with remodeled baths and internet service. My balcony overlooked the Egyptian Museum. Perfect!
