“Lovely Place close to the Museum & Thahir Square”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2011

The Hotel is located very Central, so if you are anoyed by the cars at the streets don´t stay in a Capital like Cairo, but honestly which Capital is quiet at night time?, I personally think it is charming, to sit outside at the Balcony in the morning listening to Cairo wakes up.Breakfast was nothing special, but good avarage. My Room was at the 5th floor very nice view to the Museum.
The staff was very friendly, and helped when the showerhead didn´t work.
I was there in the beginning of the Ramadan 2 nights in August 2011, which slowed down the traffic after sunset, this is recomendable.
For sure I would go back :-) Good value and great location.

Room Tip: 5 th floor looking toward the Museum

The value of this hotel is unquestionable. We were surprised to find that the hotel is actually just one floor in a bigger building but found it to be fairly clean and perfect for what we wanted, a base to explore Cairo. Over looking the museum and Tahrir Square was fantastic and a real experience as there were peaceful demonstrations when we were there. The staff were second to none, very friendly and attentive. We organised transfers to and from the airport, a trip to the museum, pyramids and Sphinx with the hotel. The day of our trip, it was explained what we would be doing and then our guide, Mahmoud, met us. He was great. We went to the museum first and without him I don't think we'd have got as much out of it. He study's Egyptian history, so took us around and pointed out the key artifacts and explained their importance to us. He then left us to have some time to look around. Then we went to the Pyramids and Sphinx. Again, Mahmoud was brilliant. He kept us informed along the way, stopped at the best photo spots and kept the pushy locals at bay! He had real passion and was good fun. When we returned to the hotel, the demonstrators were closing roads so we decided to head off early, go for dinner along the Nile and then head to the airport. The hotel took us somewhere to eat, picked us up promptly and made sure we arrived on time.
This is not necessarily somewhere I would want to stay for longer than 3 nights but it definitely serves a great purpose and the value for the stay, transfers and guided tour were unbeatable!

Nice little egyptian style hotel located on upper floors of a building 2 minutes away from the Egyptian Museum. The rooms are spacious, decorated "ala Egyptian". You don't feel like you could be anywhere in the world, as it is the case in some big chain hotels. Since the hotel is downtown, you can hear the honking from the street all night. It is difficult to sleep, but it would be the same everywhere in downtown Cairo. The staff is very friendly, especially if you are traveling with a little boy. The hotel is small, so the staff gets to know you. Tours can be arranged by front desk. We have very fond memories from this place, especially the staff who made our stay extraordinary.

City View was a great home for my husband and I while we explored Cairo for four days. They arranged for a driver to pick us up from the airport (at about 3 am), and he was waiting with a sign and excellent English skills to welcome us. They also had a driver bring us back to the airport when we left to fly to Luxor.

Our room had a strange configuration, with three twin-size beds. When we first arrived, there was a fourth cot in the room, awkwardly blocking most of the walking space through the room. We asked if it could be removed and a hotel staff member promptly removed it without any trouble. My husband and I pushed two of the twin beds together and that functioned just fine for the duration of our stay. Some reviewers have complained about the noise from the incessant car horn honking on the busy street below. We had no trouble sleeping on account of noise. However, we did wear ear plugs and slept with the air conditioner on to drown out most traffic and hotel hallway sounds.

The bathroom was very clean, even if very tiny. I prefer a small clean bathroom to a large dirty one any day, and this one was spotless. Make sure you press the correct button on the tank above the toilet to get hot water for your shower.

The rest of the hotel was equally tidy and the staff was happy to assist us with anything we needed. The first day, my husband inquired about a barbershop and one of the hotel staff members was kind enough to walk us down the street directly to one (which we definitely would not have found on our own). The gentleman who operates the elevator is also very friendly and wished us a good day every single time we came in or out. We did not book any excursions through the hotel staff (as some other reviewers have mentioned) and we had absolutely no trouble figuring out where to go or how to get there on our own.

There are two computers with internet access in the main hallway. We were charged for use, but evidently more recent reviewers are commenting on it being free. Regardless, for the convenience of having email access steps away from our room, it was well worth the price.

Breakfast was tasty, consisting of a large buffet of cheeses, tomatoes, cucumbers, pita bread, toast with jam, an assortment of pastries, eggs, juice, tea, and coffee. We dined outside on the balcony overlooking the Egyptian Museum. We didn’t eat any other meals at the Ali Baba restaurant because there were so many other excellent restaurants and foods to taste in Cairo.

The hotel was in a perfect location to get around the Cairo area. We walked to the Egyptian Museum, down to the riverbanks of the Nile, and around the surrounding streets to the south and east filled with shops and cafes. It was easy to catch a taxi on the main street outside the hotel or at Tahrir Square to get anywhere else (Pyramids, Khan Al Khalili, Citadel, etc.).

If I am lucky enough to return to Cairo, I will stay here again without even looking elsewhere, and I would recommend it to others without hesitation.

I stayed here for 4 nights last year. The service was nice, though even though it was summer and everyone sleeps late in Cairo, they woke me up an hour before the breakfast was cleaned up demanding to know whether I was going to eat or not. This was quite annoying. The drain in the shower did not work at all and I had to balance myself on the edges when I took a shower. But the WORST thing about my stay was that I left a backpack in the storage area and my blackberry along with 400 Egyptian pounds were stolen. Subsequently, I contacted them with this case and they were EXTREMELY hostile in their refusal to investigate. It was the most horrible experience I have had at a hotel.

Otherwise, it was clean and the staff are relatively nice.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel twice during our 4 week visit to Egypt - at the beginning and at the end of the trip.
The hotel is very conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Cairo, in Tahrir Square, with a Metro station, banks, supermarkets, restaurants and much more in the immediate vicinity, and directly opposite the Egyptian Museum.
On arrival at the airport at 07:00, one of the hotel drivers was waiting for us with a friendly greeting in excellent English. On arrival at the hotel, which is on the 5th floor of a building, we were made to feel as if we were old friends with staff (from the bellboys to reception staff) welcoming us and went out of their way to make us feel at home. The street view room with a balcony overlooking Tahrir square, was clean and inviting, with some of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. The beds were decorated with towel sculptures on our arrival. The bathroom was clean and everything was functional, and more that enough clean towels were supplied on a daily basis. The buffet breakfast was tasty with a good selection of both Egyptian and Continental options, more that enough to start the day. The dinning room and kitchen staff were friendly and welcoming, and ready to serve.
The hotel also has free Wi-fi, which was extremely fast and efficient.
We arranged a few activities through the Customer Relations Manager, for whom nothing was a problem. Both the Nile dinner cruise and a day trip to the monasteries of Wadi Natron were welll priced and organised.
We made extensive use Hassan, one of the hotel drivers. He was excellent, spoke very good English and went out of his way to accommodate all our requests – nothing was too much trouble. He even phoned after dropping us at the airport to make sure that we were okay. We would definitely recommend that use is made of the hotel organised transport as it was extremely reasonable and efficient – when compared to the old back and white taxis on the street.
On a few of the other reviews of this hotel, there were complaints of excessive noise from the street – we were not really effected by this and it certainly helped to close the shutters and curtains, as this effectively blocked out a lot of the noise. For very light sleepers, it might be a good idea to request a non street view room.
This is our 4th visit to Egypt and Cairo over the past 7 years, and we can truly say that we have found a hotel that we will definitely use again and recommend for the excellent service and value for money.
We were also in Cairo during protests and the Tahrir sit-in, and at no stage did we feel threatened or intimidated, as usual the people were friendly and welcoming to us as tourists, even when having to walk through the square.

We stayed for 3 nights in July. Location could not be better, just steps from the Egyptian Museum and close to Downtown and the Nile. You can see Tahrir square from the balcony of the hotel and there was still a bit of trouble from squatters with the locals. Security is very good though as the hotel is upstairs and the front door can be locked and chained. There is an elevator which needs a key code from the staff. The staff are very good and service was excellent. The room was very clean and quite large with high ceilings nicely decorated and with all amenitIes. We had a small balcony with a side view with not much to see but was less noisy than the front. Be aware you will need ear plugs. A good budget choice.

They had lots of food for breakfast but most of it not suitable for western tastes. One morning they had Spanish eggs and this was very nice but we never saw it again. We ate once at the restaurant. You have to pre order your meal and we had the chicken kebab with rice which was nice but the ice cream had melted.

The tours here are expensive. Check out the local travel agents just around the corner from the hotel. We were quoted USD65 each to go to Alexandria from the hotel, but we got a personal tour with private car much cheaper and were well pleased. Nothing much at Alexandria though and probably not worth the effort.

Room Tip: Front rooms would be very noisy
