I love to try foods from other cultures and the pancake house is not one to miss. The fateer available back home is nothing like the fateer here. The closest comparison I can come up with is thin crust pizza with the toppings on the inside and the crust wrapped around it. They serve both savory and sweet versions. I've had both and they are terrific. Be warned, the sweet ones are very sweet! One thing I learned is Egyptians like their desserts sweet and drenched in honey. If you can, take a peek as they make the fateer and put it in the oven.

The Pancakes are average, though the location (right at the entrance to the Khan) is great.
You can give this one a miss-- but if you do insist on going here, make sure it's in the evening, when it's a lot more active.

I had banana, honey and nuts - it was delicious, but SOOO sickly sweet and filling. I definitely wouldn't recommend one bigger than a small unless you're starving. The 'pancake' is served flat, but is thick with the filling inside. The top was quite crisp, and the edge quite doughy. Its difficult to explain, but after the chaos of the biazzare, it is almost perfect

A very tiny restaurant located on a side street in Khan Al Khalili. The clients are a mix of Western tourists, tourists from the Gulf countries, Egyptian families and the occasional expat. The restaurant serve "Fetir", a kind of Egyptian pancake that can be a main meal (with cheese or meat) as well as a desert (honey, yogurth, sugar...). Absolutely delicious and cheap, especially if you speak Arabic.

This is a place I first went to 20 years ago, recommended in the Loney Planet Guide, DK Eyewitness Cairo and others it is frequently used by tourists and locals alike.

They serve "Fattir" a local pastry which is either filled or topped (called with Pizza or Pancake) either savory or sweet . Service is quick and friendly and the quality is very good .

You can watch the chef while he makes the fattir and puts it in the oven, a good thing to photograph, as it is a difficult task.

I fully recommend this place to anyone is the Khan Khalili area and needs a good, fresh and inexpensive meal.
