“Decent Almost-there Hotel”
Reviewed November 11, 2011

This is a hotel, the level of which is somewhat equivalent to Marriott Residence or Hyatt Place, etc. - it's almost there, but not quite the international level, which is expected as Korea is not known for being the tourist destination (except for other Asians). My room was clean and the BREAKFAST WAS FANTASTIC (with various food selections and on-site omelet cooking). The facilities are in decent shape. I liked the free two bottles of water, but didn't like their charging for shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste (although not too expensive, it all adds up!) Also, they shouldn't charge for the wireless internet access - this was a real downer for a business hotel. The staff was very attentive and quick in their responses, which I find the true strength in Korea. The location is certainly not central, but given the distances in Seoul, it's really not a bad location with access to buses and subway - you just have to use the concierge actively to know the bus and subway schedules and routes.
Overall, I regret I can't give the #4 rating - you can do it, KMHK hotel!

Rooms are basically clean but they are really old, giving them a slightly dingy look. Paint peeling off the furnishings, mysterious dark spots on the carpets, calcified goo on the soap dish...that sort of thing. But critical things, like bed sheets and towels, are clean.

I can't imagine why anybody would want to stay here unless they were going to a meeting on-site, which was why I stayed.

It's in the middle of nowhere so don't stay if you plan seeing a lot of sights in Seoul...you'll waste vast amounts of time on transportation. Service is a bit weak, but they try.

Pack a mosquito net! I lost a lot of sleep hunting mosquitos every night. They come out to feed around 2-3am, so don't bother hunting them down until then.

Service is very good, but not all staff members are fluent in English, so guests must be patient. Be warned that the hotel is very far from the center of Seoul. Although there is a free shuttle service, which is very helpful and always prompt, most areas of interest in central Seoul are still very far from the station where the shuttle drops guests off. Make sure you know exactly where the shuttle will pick you up as it is rather difficult to find.
Also, the usual items that come free for most hotels are not free here. Guests will have to pay extra for breakfast (fantastic buffet selections) and wifi access. But all in all, we were happy to be booked in this hotel.

The downsides:
very remote location with very few amenities nearby. Isolated and far from city central. You will need to know the right bus to take or trust taxi to take you where you need to go.
very poorly equipped with basic amenities like shampoo and other basic bathroom toilettires other hotels give out complimentarily
Staff has improved somewhat. I saw many Chinese tourist use this place.

The upsides:
price is a little lower than other hotels, but it's not value in this sense since they skimp so much on basic things you need. There is no water in the rooms either. You have to go to a dispenser which I'm quite sure they refill from the faucet.
the bedding is clean and I slept fairly well. The room is clean and fair size.

We stayed here for a conference being held in the hotel complex, so it was really the only choice. It is like an average chain hotel, but the nightly rate strictly includes the room only. Everything else has to be paid for (breakfast, internet, fitness, shampoos which are part of the minibar for some reason). The only extras you don't have to pay for are the shuttle bus and parking on site (as long as you're a guest). You can choose between a typical western room or a traditional Korean ondol. If you can afford it, there are two restaurants in the complex: western on the ground floor and Japanese on the first. That said, the staff spoke excellent English and were generally very helpful. In terms of location, this hotel is not really central. The closest subway station is Yangjae and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus to there (although where it picks you up is more of a mystery, as mentioned in a previous review). It takes about 10 minutes. If you want to stay out later than 11 pm, you have to get a taxi or walk. The hotel gave out cards with the name on with this in mind, so you don't have to try to pronounce it. Overall, this hotel is really best suited for business and functions. If you're on a city break or a tourist, it would be better to stay somewhere more central, or at least closer to a subway station.

What we liked:
• The breakfast was plentiful and you could choose from a buffet or à la carte.
• The towels were clean and replaced daily.
• The staff members were helpful and reasonably fluent in English.
• There is a convenience store on site for odds and ends.
• When it turned up, the free shuttle bus.

What we disliked:
• Charging for everything (the room wasn't that cheap).
• The fact that the air-conditioning did not cool the room at all.
• No international TV stations like most business hotels.
• Nothing to do in the immediate surrounding area.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, desk clerks spoke English well, bellmen always made sure taxi drivers knew where you wanted to go. Hotel also provides a shuttle bus every 20 minutes (prime time and less often non-prime time) to/from the Yang-jae subway stop. But it took me 3 days to find out where the return pick-up location was -- it is hard to describe and one really has to be shown in person.

Taxis are reasonably priced but traffic is often heavy so the cost of the same trip can vary widely. Some taxis flagged down near Yang-jae subway couldn't take us to the hotel, which was legitimately outside their "zone" of operation. It is best to take the subway to/from Yang-jae for the fastest trip because it avoids vehicle traffic slowdowns, then from there take taxi or shuttle to/from the hotel. From the airport take the Express bus to Yang-jae, then taxi to the hotel.

Our very comfortable and clean room was a "Western suite" with king bed, larger than a normal "twin", and had plenty of space for a twin bed to be added if you want 2 beds. Beds are hard. Ask for more pillows if you want them. Shampoo and conditioner are mini-bar items for which you pay. Bathroom lighting is poor for shaving or makeup.

My family of four traveled to Seoul from 12/20 - 12/27. I made last minute hotel reservations - my limited choices were: 2 rooms in a downtown hotel for about $200/night each, or this hotel, about 35 minutes by subway for $100. We choose this one to save a lot of money. There is a free shuttle nearby the Yangjae subway. Or a $3 taxi to the hotel. It is a hotel used by locals for banquets and tour groups. As we were in S Korea, only a couple of desk clerks spoke english, but it was sufficient. We were surprised at $2 shampoo, etc but found the same items for less in the hotel drug store on the first floor. The room was clean and warm, the beds comfortable. Tight squeeze with the extra roll away (add'l $20). But we all fit. They rate themselves as 3 1/2 stars, I'd give them 3 stars. Yangjae is line 3, which takes you directly to downtown in 35 minutes.
