“The usual Fraser flavours”
Reviewed October 21, 2011

We stayed at this property from 14th till 19th October in a Studio Apartment and have mixed feelings of our experiences. The choice was made based on space and location vs price and I'd rate it a 3.5-above average given that 4 and 5-stars hotels are expensive in Seoul.

I liked:
1) The space - the apartment was about 34 sqm with a king-bed and I loved the many concealed cabinets/drawers for my loads of stuff, brought from home and from the daily shopping. Truly well furnished intended for travellers as a temporary home.

2) Location - I like the location as it was close to everywhere but not in the middle of noise and crowd. There is an airport bus (number 6005) which stops right at Fraser's entrance costing KRW10,000. There are 2 subway stations nearby and the Deoksugung Palace/Namdaemun Market/Myeongdong are all within 15 minutes of walking distances. Seoul Station is just 1 stop away from the City Hall station. Around Fraser are mostly office buildings, small local eateries, cafes/bakeries and convenience stores.

3) Internet - very high-speed internet connection is available in the apartment but is chargeable.

Dislikes:
a) Bath time - because living space was so well maximised that it resulted in a small shower stall and toilet, with the washing basin located OUTSIDE the door so strictly speaking there was no bathroom in our apartment of that layout! Having to get dressed in the little standing space between the entrance hallway and the 'bathroom' was indeed challenging. The toileries were not replaced until I left a written note for Housekeeping.

b) Language barrier - most of the fittings came with Korean instructions only, examples being the aircon set, gas stove and microwave oven.

In general, I feel the stay was pleasant enough but the Husband felt that some reception staff were neither friendly nor helpful when we asked for directions which puzzled him (who travels frequently to Seoul and was cynical at my choice of FRaser in downtown instead of his familar Gangnam).

Tip : look out for Ms Libby and Mr Chris at the reception, they are lovely to talk to!

We (with my husband and our adult son) stayed at Fraser Place Central Seoul for two nights in October. When we arrived at 10:30pm, a young and unkind (rather rude) male receptionist explained hotel facilities very quickly. When I asked him the time of the opening hours of their spa, he was a bit upset and said "I just told you!". I felt we were not welcomed. Other receptionists were good, but very mechanical and did not smile. I thought hotel needs more training on people. The room was clean and large, but I could hear everything from the next door. There were three Korean women chatting in their bed room. They were just chatting and sometime laughing, but we could hear them. One woman was coughing very much too, I finally asked the receptionist at 1pm to tell them "we can hear them and we can't sleep". On the second night, there was a small child with his parents in our next door. The family slept early, but the child got up at 6am and was running around. I couldn't have a good sleep for two nights. It was terrible. It was my first time to stay at so- called a "residential hotel". If you are staying just for 2-3 days like us, their cooking facility and a large storage are not very useful. Iit doesn't worth taking a risk as a residential hotel does not have the same bulding restrictions as hotels. Choose a good hotel. And one more thing: they charge internet. There is NO free internet at a lobby either.

If you have budget and don't mind the walking distance, this is a very modern apartment residence. Rooms are modern and clean and roomy. Only drawback is that you need to walk 10-15mins to the subway. Dragging heavy luggages can be very difficult. But is walkable to the central Seoul station and to myeodong.

We stayed at Fraser Place, Seoul for 4 nights in Sep 2011 and it was very pleasant. Checking in and out was fast with no hassle at all. The apartment was well furnished and clean, and we really appreciate the ajuma for the excellent housekeeping work. The staff are polite and speak good English.Breakfast provided at the First Floor were satisfactory and no worries on food as there are many eateries and two conveneince shops nearby. There are 3 subway lines within 5-15 minutes walk (Seodaemon Station is the nearest). But if travelling in a group of 3-4 and going to places like Myeondong, Buckchon Hanok Village, Geongbokgong, Insadong etc, we find it cheaper to get a cab, and save a lot of walking. We had a great time at the pool and spa at the basement, that did help to ease the acheing body after many walking!

We booked this serviced apartment because of the positive comments on the Trip Advisor and the nice introduction in its website. However, we find the apartment rather disappointing. Maybe we have been expecting too much from it, have we?

(1) The Front Desk male staff were cold, without any smile and eye contact. They were able to answer our questions but whenever we had hesitation on their answers or we couldn't follow their answers, they showed an impatient expression on their faces. During our 5 days' stay, there wasn't a single greetings from them whenever we passed around either day or night.

However, praises should be given to the Housekeeping. The female housekeepers were pleasant, friendly and ready to help, even though they did not quite understand English. Also the man who took care of our luggage was very nice and polite.

(2) To us, the most annoying thing concerning this apartment was the design of the toilet. We lived in 1 bedroom type. There was a door which separated the wash basin from the bath & toilet. We found this design very poor and inconvenient. As normal we needed to close the door when using the toilet but because of this design we had to come out to wash our hands, or we needed to step inside the bath and wash our hands by the shower/water tap if we didn't come out. The floor of the bath was dirty, with large patches of blue-coloured stains which couldn't be washed away. There wasn't any suitable space in the toilet to hold our clothes/towels when taking a bath. We knew that there was a tiny cupboard on the top of the toilet, but it's too small and dirty (there's an insect inside). There's also not enough space around the wash basin for us to hold our cleansers or moisturizers when washing our faces. They must have become very wet if we put them next to the wash basin.

The bed was comfortable. Even though there were noises from outside (we lived on 4th floor), we could sleep well.

(3) Breakfast was of quite a variety (greater than we had expected) but the floor of the restaurant was always dirty.

Because of the toilet, we won't stay at it again. Its design doesn't fit us but may fit others. However, the staff should be better trained as hospitality is something very important in this industry.

We stayed here for two nights last week, in a two bedroom. The space is enormous, immaculate and very modern. It is located a little off the beaten path so make sure you take the address of the property with you for the taxi drivers. It is a beautiful property our only complaint is that our refrigerator smelled horrible so it made us reluctant to use it. Staff was helpful, since it's more of an extended stay type property you won't be coddled.

We just returned from a 3-night, 4-day, stay at Fraser Place and loved it. The location was fantastic as was the helpful staff at the front desk. The only issue we had was a bit of mold in the bathrooms and some wallpaper that was coming off of the walls, but these were truly very minor issues. We would definitely stay here again.
