Tiffany Tourist Hotel
Ranked #365 of 504 Hotels in Seoul
Reviewed September 11, 2010

I attended the World Voice Congress at the COEX and was looking for a cheap hotel in the area. I travel no frills, and the hotel is pretty much just a place to stow my stuff and to sleep in. I saw this hotel in the Agoda website, and, being only $47 a night, it seemed perfect for my modest needs.

From the airport, it can be reached by taking the 6010 airport bus, which cost only W15,000 a trip. You come down at the Riviera Hotel stop, walk a bit more down the street. You will see a building with a Hite Beer billboard across the street. Cross the street walking toward that building, and the Tiffany Hotel is right there. Just reverse the procedure on your way back to the airport. Bus comes every 20 minutes or so.

I was given a Japanese style room on the 6th floor, with no chairs and a low table. The AC took some time to cool up, but that is OK. The room had TV with CNN, BBC and English movies. It also had a small ref. This first room had no internet cable, but there was a public computer near the front desk which had free internet use. The bathroom had a bathtub and hot shower.

Inexplicably, they wanted me transferred to another room on my third day because they needed to repair my AC. I did not argue anymore because of language difficulties with the staff, and just requested to be transferred to a room with internet connection (which they did). The bathroom this time had no tub, but it had a rain-type shower overhead. No curtains, so the whole floor will get wet after your shower.

Anyway, there was a Family Mart just around the corner for basic needs and quick meals. It was a 15 minute walk from the COEX, which was not bad on a cool dry day. It is very near the Cheongdam subway station, very convenient. The front desk guys were generally friendly and helpful. Checking in and out was no hassle at all.

Stayed here for 5 days in April 2010, and I was happy with the place.

The rooms are surprisingly big with a cable for free internet, and BBC / CNN on the television. Breakfast is adequate, and they seem to be pretty flexible about time; I wandered down about 10.30 one morning, and it wasn't a problem to eat then. Varying levels of English at reception, but they're helpful. As for the location, it's right beside a subway station, but expect to take 20/25 minutes (including 1 transfer) to get to where most of the attractions are.

THE BUS! One of the reasons I picked this hotel was the advertised easy access to and from the airport. This is true, but be careful..... According to the website, the 6006 bus stops right outside, but that isn't the case any more. I believe the bus company changed the route in 2009. The 6006 stops about 15 minutes walk away at COEX, so the best bet is the 6010 bus. It stops at the Hotel Rivera, which is maybe 250 metres away to the right of the Tiffany. On the way back to Incheon Airport, you can get the 6010 from a street up to the left, about 5 minutes walk from the Tiffany.

A small tip... if you're coming back to the hotel from north of the river, get off at Seongnae. It'll take about an hour or so, but it's a really nice walk from there back to the hotel along the river, and past the Olympic Stadium. I did this one night as the sun was setting, and it'll probably end up being my best memory of Seoul.

Budget Hotel in the Gangnam-Gu area close to the metrostation Cheongdam. The hotel is located in the interesting area of Gangnam. It is a budget hotel with great prices. The shower is not the best but with that price.

Close to a train line. Rooms look old, probably have never been renovated. They do a good job daily cleaning the room daily but everything looks so old that it really is in need of a renovation. Showers are not separted from the rest of the bathroom so when you shower the enitre bathroom is wet. Only stay if you want to save money cause I paid $40 a night for a six night stay. Free wired internet.

The word "hellhole" does a fair amount of justice to describe the Tiffany Tourist "Hotel". For about $35 a night, you can find some rather reputable hostels around Seoul - particularly north of Anguk Station - that are of invariably better quality than Tiffany. She's just terrible.

Check-in was easy, and the staff seemed fairly friendly, however that's where the compliments end. Upon the opening of the elevator doors to our floor, our noses were assaulted at the stench of what seemed to be a Marlboro cigarettes convention. We booked a non-smoking room, and the entire floor (including our room) smelled like an ash tray. I went downstairs to ask for a non-smoking room, but to no avail. The man at the front said that it was already a non-smoking room and there was nothing he could do about previous guests smoking in the room. That explanation didn't account for the ash tray and the box of Tiffany Tourist matches in our room, however. And quite frankly, the whole room was one errant match away from being set into oblivion - there were wires running out of the wall that seemed to have no other purpose except for frightening us. The beds were harder than a bottle of tequila, and they were bunched up right next to each other. The television was very small and had access to an array of local Korean channels; no CNN or BBC, however. The shower was rather limited, however it got the job done. The icing on the cake had to be the piece of chewed gum that was stuck to the nightstand; a very lovely touch indeed.

After arriving after 20+ in transit from the states, we found this hotel to be very unacceptable. I don't expect much for $65 a night. That's a very reasonable price for a room in a good location (which it is in, near the COEX and Chungdam Station), especially in the capital city. But trading $65 for a bed of nails and a mild case of second-hand emphysema isn't worth it. Pay the extra and stay at the Riviera, or try the traditional guesthouses around Anguk.

P.S. - the phone seemed to be for display only, as it didn't work.

Great location near the COEX and the subway. Hotel staff were friendly and most spoke English. Front desk was very helpful to a foreign traveler and wrote down names of places for me to show taxi drivers.
Room itself was clean and as advertised. Suggest specifically asking for a room with internet if that's important to you as otherwise the rooms do not have it.
Diner near lobby is small but standard dining fare with some Western food available.
Prices are reasonable.
