“If you want a cupboard, this is it.”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

This is far from the centre of action (although near a subway station) in Seoul, nothing around to eat after 8pm, located in a seedy part of town where lots of men are seen to drink in groups and go down stairways to dimly lit bars. If you don't mind dirt, like to stay in a cupboard size hotel, and do not want to spend a single minute of comfort in your hotel room - then this is your hotel. Do a little research and find a much better place nearer to the centre of town. We had 2 days to find a hotel and fell into this trap. Learn from our mistake. Service is almost non-existant. Seoul itself is fabulous, and I will be back to see more. But never will I stay in this hotel again.

If you're looking for a cheap, tiny room in the center of Seoul then this might be ok for you. Feels like a hotel room in Tokyo - very, very small. Staff are ok, but mostly nonchalant. Not that great - better experience in many other places in Seoul.

This is a gem which is very close to the Subway station (<5 minutes), and COEX (<5 minutes). Equipped with free FAST internet (you just need to bring your own laptop). The rooms may be small to some, but it is clean, has an attached bathroom and kitchen facilities (stove, fridge). Very ideal if you are out most of the day or you need to stay for longer periods of time for an affordable price!

Iron is shared and you need to go to a common area. They have laundry facilities if you plan to do your own laundry! Rooms are cleaned every other day (not daily!)

Room Tip: Book early!

Reason for stars: It was small but the location was great.

Rooms: Small but not bad for what it was.

Location: Great. Right near Co-ex. There is also an Airport Shuttle at COEX which was really nice to have when we were flying out.

Value: Great. I will probably stay here again when in Seoul.

I've been in two different hotels in Seoul. This one was a little bit more expensive but the other one was much better.

The rooms are really small. The bathroom doesn't have a real shower. Instead you have to take the shower inside the bathroom. The toilet was loose and did always move when you used it. Cleanliness was also not too good and the staff was not really helpful. The only good thing about the hotel is that it is close to the COEX center. I guess most other hotels in that area are much more expensive. But if you don't have to go to this area I would recommend to take a better hotel in another area.

As many travelers to Seoul will tell you...it's all about the South. Meaning: Most of the good stuff to do in Seoul nowadays is south of the Hangang River. Samseong Station is where the business and higher end area is centered.

Casaville Samseong is across the main road from the Grand Intercontinental Hotel, down the alleyway from the HK bank. Next to the Intercontinental is the upscale Hyundai Dept Store with all its high-end boutiques (ie, Gucci, Dior, LV, Cartier, etc). In the basement of the dept store, there is a food court, wine shop, and expensive grocery store. The dept store closes at 8 pm. You can also access the COEX mall (the largest underground mall in Asia) from the dept store basement.

The COEX houses the mall, movie theater, the aquarium, the Kimchi Museum, food courts, and many restaurants. The mall closes at 10 pm.

In the immediate surrounding streets, there are many restaurants and bars. There is also a Paris Baguette to the left when facing the Intercontinental.

The Samseong station is on the green line (line 2). Line 2 is really convenient since it's essentially a big circle around Seoul, so you can connect to almost any line from the green line. In addition, there are many buses that stop here (I was traveling to Asan Medical Center, and the bus that stops right in front of the hospital also stopped 2 blocks from the hotel).

The rooms are small, but adequate for 1 person. The beds are hard, but typical of Asian beds. Free Internet, TV, and kitchenette make the whole stay a lot easier. There is no more breakfast offered as previously reported. However, you can purchase a small sandwich and coffee at the front desk for the coffee shop next door.

The bathroom is your standard Asian bathroom with the shower part of the bathroom itself. All you need to do is cover the seat, and shower away.

The staff speaks a little English, but tries their best to help you out. I saw many international travelers staying here. The KAL limousine bus to Incheon is across the street at the Intercontinenal (buy tickets at their front desk).

I would recommend to bring a laptop as there is free internet. You can use their lobby computer for a fee. There is also a printer and copier in the lobby as well.

My only complaint is that I felt like something crawling around while in bed, and did find 2 small insects in the bed, however, not sure if they just entered through the window, or were indeed bedbugs.

Overall, because my stay was an extended stay, this was a great deal without breaking my budget. I would stay there again, however, will examine the bed a little closer before sleeping!

Tha Casaville Samsung is a serviced apartment building located just off the samseong subway station near the Coex in Seoul. The lobby is really small with just a desk, a PC and space for a coffee machine. Check in is quick and they make you sign a lease deed even if you are staying for just 4 days. Once you reach your floor, what hits you is the look of the place. There are 'steelish' looking doors like you would expect in a large deep-freezer, spaced about 8 feet apart. No decorations-pure utility. Once you enter the room, you realize how small rooms can be. The width of the living area is 10 feet and the length is about 8 feet. After the bed and the table, there is just enough space to stand next to the chair. The kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, hotplate and sink if you wish to use them. The bathroom is the tiniest I have ever seen in a hotel. The wash-basin is a small steel bowl and the space for a shower-next to the WC is about two feet wide. Once you shower, the whole place is completely wet and unusable. They give you coupons for breakfast at the cafe next door where you get a cup of Americano coffee and a sandwich-that's it-no choices.

The only great thing is the location, bang next to the subway and the Coex. The place is also reasonably clean although you get service only once in three days. Also, the free wired internet (not wireless). Ok for a single person spending just the night in the rooms. Anything more than one person and you are likely to bump into each other all the time.
