“Not sure a hotel or a hostel”
Reviewed May 11, 2011

I am not sure it was a hostel or a hotel. The room was so small and the breakfast was so bad! For the price, I have no complaint as everything in South Korea was so expensive.

I stayed at the Olympic Parktel on a recent business trip because I needed to be close to the Jamsil/Chonho-dong area and it received OK reviews on here and the price was reasonable. I would NOT recommend the hotel for business travelers. There seem to be many high school student tour groups that use the hotel, the staff is indifferent sometimes instead of helpful, and basic things are lacking. For example, there is no iron or ironing board in the room and none available to request -- if you need to iron, you must go with your things to the 5th floor laundry room and do it there. ??? Is this a dormitory? How can a hotel not have irons available?

Also, if you want to use internet, there is a KRW 10,000 charge per day and you must take your laptop to the business center and have a technician set up special connectivity -- not simply get a username and password to use at check in. Not a huge deal, but like everything else, was just disappointing, aggravating, and took more time and effort to get what you need.

There is nothing in the neighborhood -- the closest restaurants are a 10 minute walk away in a neighborhood full of "no tell motels" and massage parlors near the subway station.

If you want cheap, clean, and basic it is a good choice for travelers, but not a convenient location for tourists at all. If you are on business, I would avoid the hotel because of all of the little annoyances and inconveniences.

Although quite old now and a little dated in places, this hotel does not seem tired in it's decor (with the possible exception of the check-in area). The room was small but well laid out and had everything I needed including a comfy bed. The cost of in-room internet connection was reasonable but there is a business centre downstairs with public computers. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a good location, right next to the olympic park, 2 minutes from the nearest subway station and about 10-15 minutes walk from a huge shopping and restaurant complex. I would happily stay there again on my next trip to Seoul.

The basics - expect a clean and nice hotel that mainly caters to business travellers therefor they have mostly solo rooms or twinbeds. I remember that they only have 9 double bed rooms. Most rooms have a nice view of Seoul and Olympic park. The view from 16th floor is amazing and you just want to experience a dramatic thunderstorm from this vantagepoint.

Bathroom is well done with proper materials for bathrooms but form has won over function as there is wery little room for your own toiletries and no ironing board nor iron. (maybe not standard in Seoul hotels?) The toilet has a heated seatring and spaceshuttle like control board for all various functions.

Food is more expensive at the hotel compared with one is used to. Coffee was close to 9euros at the cafe, you are better of walking to starbucks at the peace square.

It is close to subway so one can get a around to all the sights. Only a few subway stops from Electromart with over 2000 electronics stores and maybe 30min to Gyongbok Palace and Insadong by subway.

The real gem is the park - get out in the park during and after sunset and you wlll be sharing the park with Korean families on a picknick. Enjoy the park and see how normal familes relax and wind down or go to the peace square and watch rollerbladers do trickskating.

The bus to Incheon airport leaves from a busstation across the street from the hotel.
There is no spa at the hotel so if you are looking for some pampering when you get back to your room you are out of luck. This said the hotel gives good bang for buck and things work flawlessly at the hotel.
