Reviewed May 20, 2013

Spent long weekend at the Plaza on first trip to Seoul and came away impressed. Attentive but not overly intrusive service, excellent location and helpful staff. You can walk to many attractions and the hotel is right on a metro stop. There are fun shopping/bar streets in the area which you should explore because the bar and restaurant were a bit expensive. Hotel looks over City Hall which can a be noisy if something is going on in the park. Rooms are modern in design with a "command center" to run lights and curtains but are a little on the small size with a king size bed. Shower has a "rain forest" type of shower head and a glass wall connecting to the bathroom so watch when you use the "open all curtains" button in the command center. Bus from airport will drop you right at the door and is only 15,000 SK won.

Dear TheKrezAbides,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We are very proud of our product as well as our staff and I am glad that the team was able to make your stay comfortable.

The renovated hotel rooms in 2010 present contemporary and unique designs and are furnished with custom-made furniture and high tech facilities such as ‘Touchpad’(called ‘command center’ in your review) or rain shower.

And we are located right above the subway station, City hall station on Line 1 or Line 2 and in the walking distance to the famous Meongdong shopping area and other major tourist attractions. And there is a limousine bus between the hotel and Incheon international airport 2~3 times an hour on a daily basis. Glad that you appreciated our location!

Moreover, diverse cultural events from spring to fall on Seoul Plaza across from the hotel will be good enough to give guests a lot of pleasure.

I have passed on your positive remark to our team, which will act as a well deserved motivator to achieve more superior performance.
We look forward to welcoming you again next time you are back in Seoul!

Kind regards,

Jong Kwon Han

Being in such a central location just outside Seoul plaza, getting to the hotel via the airport bus takes you straight to the hotel entrance which is good.

Once we arrive, our luggage was promptly taken care of and we were whisked up to the Club level (where we were staying) to check in. Here, you get all the service and attention you require as well as the added benefits of separate dining area, happy hour with free drinks and all day access to the club lounge that over looks Seoul plaza. We stayed in the Premier Suite and enjoy the extra space and comfort to spread out. Nice and roomy, but still cosy. Though I am not a fan of the automated console to turn off/on lights, blinds, etc. Some simple tasks seem to be harder than it should have been.

The food served here(either for the evening or breakfast) was excellent and the hot food selection seem to change each day.

On the negative, internet WiFi seemed a bit flaky due to not a strong signal(we relied on our own 4G hot spot device in the end) and if you didnt have a toothbrush or paste, you had to buy the supplied brand name item in the room or go the local shops. Not a major deal, but worth noting if you rely on hotel supplied amenities.

Also when you do get the inevitable protests or major event happening down at Seoul plaza, the windows don't really keep the sound out so it can be quite noticeable if a band is playing. We were on the opposite side of Seoul Plaza and could still here it.

Other than that, great location over all and would go back if in Seoul again. Subway is just outside the hotel, palaces, Myeongdong and market a short walk away and an ideal base to get around.

Room Tip: If can afford it, get a room on the Club level to enjoy the extra level of service and benefits.

Dear Scottie666,

First of all I would like to thank you for having taken the time to write such a detailed review about your recent stay at The Plaza!

We are extremely delighted to see that you enjoyed and were happy with our good location, facilities with cutting-edge tech and services provided by our team, in particular at our Club Lounge and the rest of our team. It is most rewarding to learn that all elements are appreciated by our guests. As you were noticed, Club Lounge serves 2 different hot foods (Korean, Italian, French or Asian food) on a daily basis with cold cuts and fruits to indulge guests in the happy hour.

But we are sorry that you experienced inconvenience of WiFi in the hotel. With Free WiFi in our whole hotel, we will check and pay more careful attention to its signal. And in regards to noise from Seoul Plaza, double window system has been set up to make noise much less.
To provide the high-quality toothbrush and toothpaste, we put them as minibar item but the disposable ones are also offered as requested.

Our team has been briefed and will ensure that communication is emphasis at any given points.
Once again thank you for sharing your experience and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one.

Kindest Regards,

Jong Kwon Han

The hotel was elegant, very modern and luxurious. The room was well thought out but tiny. We had a large double bed which you could walk around but no floor space at all. There was nowher to open the suitcase except on the bed. The closet was too short to hang our clothes. The amenities were wonderful. Definitely call and ask for the coffeemaker to be delivered to your room. The breakfast buffet was outstanding but pricey 50,000 won. And it closes at 10:00am. So for us, this was not convenient. There is a bakery under the hotel where you can get coffee and breakfast items. The staff was very helpful with all of our arrangements. We stayed here for our first four nights in Korean. It was a perfect place to begin to get oriented about Seoul.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the Plaza.

Dear Halsherm3,

Thank you for taking so much of your time to write a review of our hotel!

I noticed that you have had a mixture of some good and bad experiences during this stay.

Firstly, I am really glad to know that you have enjoyed the room design, amenities and guest services.
As Korea’s luxury boutique hotel, The Plaza has been renovated in 2010 and is becoming the optimal choice for even the most discerning business travelers who pursue both style and convenience. Rooms seem smaller than other hotels but we are furnished with custom-made furniture, high tech facilities, Nespresso machine and rain shower in a bathroom booth for guest’s convenience.

In regards to our breakfast, it is a wide range of breakfast menu from American to Korean foods that allow guests to indulge in enticing starters from the buffet, or individual American or Continental breakfast menu served at the table for a truly sophisticated breakfast experience.

But constructive criticism like price and business hour of breakfast helps us identify opportunities and be able to focus on service thoroughly.

We all send our regards and appreciation to you for the recognition and hope it will not be long to see you again.

Truly yours,

Jong Kwon Han

Dear Binay_bombay,

Thank you for taking your valuable time to share your experience on Tripadvisor.
We are very pleased to hear that you had a great time with us.

Yes, our location is perfect for guests to see the top attractions of Seoul, such as tourist attractions, shopping districts, historical sites and etc. And we are connected to the city hall station of line no.1&2 that most of places are easily accessible even for the first visitors.

In addition, we provide a guest with the various dining options from the fine dining including Italian, Chinese and Japanese to buffet, coffee/ bar lounge and bakery. So as you mentioned, our guests can experience the top quality of food and service with the stylish and boutique ambience.

Once again, we appreciate your favorable compliment. We are sure that your compliment will help us to keep the pride and passion at The Plaza.
We look forwards to welcoming you back again!

Was in Seoul recently to catch the Cherry Blossom. Hotel is centrally located and along the many routes run by the KAL airport transfer services. Getting to the hotel is a breeze at an affordable price of Korean Won $15,000 per pax.

Hotel is linked by underpass to the subway, Lotte Department Store and MyeongDong Shopping street. Probably about 10-15mins walk.

Got a Premier Suite facing away from City Hall due to many fellow travelers reviews about the sound. The suite comes with a bedroom area and living area so more space which is good as there's 2 of us sharing a room. Would imagine the lack of space of our luggages if we got a normal room.

Took breakfast at the hotel. Same spread for 4 mornings but selections are decent.

Staffs are friendly and always ready to answer any questions we have.

Overall, nice but pricey hotel.

Dear momomeow,

It was our pleasure to have you as our guest over the recent Cherry Blossom festival period and I am glad to learn that you have a good stay with us.

Yes, we are very close to the station, City hall on 1 & 2 Line and many tourist attractions, shopping districts, historical sites and etc. are within walking distance of our hotel. And the KAL limousine bus is most convenient and comfortable connection between the airport and the hotel. The better thing is, it stops right behind the hotel for your convenience.

We have a selection of rooms that faces Seoul Plaza in front of City hall, and that is quite noisy but mesmerizing to view. In regards to noise from Seoul Plaza, double window system has been set up to make noise much less.

I note your comment about the good selections but limited variety of food at the breakfast restaurant. We presently have some menus rotating each day. But we shall review our menu items, as well as cycles, for the benefit of our longer-staying guests.

Otherwise, I am glad that you enjoyed the services. I will be certain to share your comments with the team. I look forward to welcoming you again next time you are back in Seoul!

Thank you!

Sincerely yours,

I doubt that many travelers could want for more. The rooms may be a little high tech for those who avoid the internet and smart phones? A small touch screen beside the bed controls everything! Curtains, lights, TV the whole lot.
Cabin style shower with curtained glass panel to the main bedroom made me wish I wasn't traveling alone! Funky WC too, never had to read the instructions for a privvy before! Warm seat, soft close and environmentally friendly too.
The staff, behave beautifully, nothing is too much trouble. Feeling "special" is what this kind of experience should be about and these people do it exceptionally well.
Go out to eat, 5 minutes down the road fro traditional "rustic" Korean barbecue - recommended

The Plaza is in an excellent location in Seoul, right in front the City Hall , where almost every day there are cultural manifestations.

The service at the hotel is absolutelty excellent , one of the best I 've been. The rooms though, are quite small. Since it's the only hotel I have been in Korea I am not sure this is korean standards, but in any case the bed is very confortable and the rain shower works very very well. On a negative side, the prices of food and drinks in the bar, restaurants and room service are extremely overpriced!
