“Old hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

As other reviewers have mentioned, the furniture in the room is rather dated. The room was clean, as were the bedsheets and towels. No problem with the shower (hot water available throughout the day). A hairdryer was available in the drawer. No complimentary tea/coffee sachets or jug-kettle. However, a hot/cold water dispenser is available on every floor, so you can just fill the water container in your room with hot/cold water. Location-wise, it is in Itaewon, the international quarter of Seoul. It's just a short walk away from some shopping area (quite high-end), catering to Westerners. This area also has a wide range of restaurants serving international cuisine, including 'halal' restaurants. In fact all the 'halal' restaurants in Seoul are concentrated around Itaewon.

The hotel interior design is old fashioned, especially the room which look like you are in the middle of mid 19th century.

However, the room was clean and the shower was pretty good with hot water. Cabs were accessible at the main road. Staffs were just average standard, however, there were a few of them could speak good Japanese language. When we asked them if they could call a cab for us, they only directed us to stop any pass by cabs which was quite easy for us. Full stop.

As reviewed by others, the hotel is old. The lobby looks fine though. The room key card is not the latest kind, with punch holes on it. The door felt like a bomb blast door. The room is really dated, with furniture designs dated more than ten years ago. The CRT TV (not LCD/LED) has limited channels, mostly Korean channels. No matter how old everything is, the room and bathroom are relatively clean. There is a hot and cold water dispenser out in the corridor which is rather convenient to top up your flask and water bottles.

There is no WIFI in the room, and there is only free WIFI network in the lobby which will be very slow once you have more people on the network. The staff can't help you much on this. I suggest to subscribe to a 3G SIM Card or 4G mobile WIFI router at the airport for USD$8 a day for unlimited internet access Do note that you can only get this at major airports and ports. It is really difficult to find a convenient store or telco shop that provide such service.

The breakfast spread is not so fantastic, and it is always the same everyday. Once a dish is finished, the replenishment will take some time to come. The coffee from machine dispenser is terrible, and you need to dispense many shots to get a cup.

Overall the stay is average, and the location is near a shopping district and train station within walking distance. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful , only a main road infront of the hotel.

Room Tip: Get the rooms facing the main road so that the morning sun would not shine brightly into your room.

Arrived very late and spent a night here to catch a return flight the next day. There was no service to speak of - no porter, no greetings and a not too bright lobby to welcome us. The room smelled stale and the furnitures looked dull. It wasn't a huge room to dance to my Chemical Brothers too!

Fortunately, the heater works and the shower was hot!

I spent too little time here to comment fairly but first impressions were disappointing.

I stayed for 2 nights. The decoration of the room needs a serious update and the bed was really uncomfortable. The walls were very thin, It did not help that I was sandwiched between 2 occupied rooms, so I could hear the bathroom tabs and toilet flashes from one room, and other guests talking in the other room. There is also a night club located within the hotel complex, i could hear the music playing at 3:30am in the morning and that really gave me a headache. Stay away from this tel if you want to get a good nights sleep. Plus, there is no Wifi in room, and guests have to sit in the lobby if they want to have internet access.

Near famous iteawon, good clubbing area, 5-min walk to the railway, just takes you 20-30 mins to famous myeongdong and dongtaemon.  Room rate is cheap - but if you don't mind their poor front desk service, it is definitely a good choice.

We stayed a few nights because The Crown Itaewon was close to our son's apartment and close to the location of his wedding (wedding hall at the War Memorial Museum). The room was a little cramped and too warm, but clean with very good housekeeping service. Being on the front, the road was too noisy to keep the window open for ventilation. Our rate included a good scrambled egg and sausage breakfast with toast, orange juice, and coffee. Had to use the wi-fi in the lobby for internet. Just around the corner from Itaewon Road, lots of restaurants, bars, coffee shops.

Room Tip: A back room would be good for opening the window when it is hot.
