“Comfortable Lodgings”
Reviewed December 10, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for six nights the first part of Dec 2013. Had a room on a controlled access floor with initial access to the executive lounge. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The fitness center was very nice and available extended hours...which helped with the jet lag battle. The breakfast was pricey, but had many offerings. Be mindful of the $40 or so service charge, per day, at checkout. Reportedly this is to cover gratuities during the stay.

Dear Guest,

First of all, it is pleasure to hear that you found our Club Olympus fitness centre to be an effective means to recover from jet lag! We were pleased to hear all of your other compliments on your stay as well, particularly your kind words about our generous breakfast buffet selections.

Thank you again for your thoughtful comments and we hope to welcome you back soon.

Great hotel with great amenities. Outdoor / indoor pools. Excellent spa facilities. Variety of nice restaurants (Japanese, general / Korean, steakhouse). Love the spacious lobby bar. Only thing which could be plus / minus depending on your point of view is that its somewhat secluded location on top a small mountain / big hill. Need to take cab. Subway / bus not really an option -- definitely a long incline/decline walk. Actually like Grand Hyatt more than Park Place Hyatt in Seoul. Feels more "airy" and better vibe.

Dear Guest,

First of all, we must say that we were very pleased to read every word of your wonderful review. It was very satisfying to learn that you loved our spacious Lobby Lounge and we hope you had the chance to take photos of our spectacular and giant Christmas tree.

We think that you’ll agree that one of our distinct charms is our location atop Namsan Mountain, surrounded by forests and parklands, but only a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of the city. As with our sister hotel, Park Hyatt Seoul, we pride ourselves on our high levels of service, and are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Best regards,

A year on from my last visit it is great to see standards haven't slipped at the Grand Hyatt. For me its location, facilities, staff and attention to detail make it the ONLY place to stay in Seoul. I took two business groups to Seoul during October/November and every one of the guests were knocked out by the hotel. Being on the Club floors helps because of the Club lounges - it helps me organise rendezvous as well, but it is a great facility. The rooms may not be the largest but nowhere else can challenge the views either across the river or of Mount Namsan. The health club, sauna and spa are superb and the restaurants and bars just about unequalled. It is a shame the Paris bar and Grill doesn't have a separate entry because it must rate as one of the best grill rooms in the city and with the private dining areas it copes well for either romantic or small dinners and with larger groups too. The Terrace restaurant buffet satisfies the disparate needs of a business group and afterwards J.J.Mahoney's will keep jet-lagged travellers awake until the small hours. And I was truly impressed when the night before departure I discovered my room safe had decided to lock itself that the night manager pulled every trick with both his in-house staff and ultimately an engineer to make sure I could get my belongings out before an early start the next day. OK, it was after midnight before we succeeded but he wasn't going to be beaten by a dumb piece of machinery! I hope the next year passes quickly!

Room Tip: The mountain rooms are a little cheaper than River view and if you can wangle a corner room you get...

A great site with mountain views and wonderful Xmas lights both in and outside the hotel, also very helpful staff. In particular the Concierge was helpful and spoke very good english. However some things were not so great.the beds were very hard by western standards and the rooms not well soundproofed. The air conditiner was stuck on one level of heat and the only way to cool the room down was to turn it off.The lobby cafe had great views but was wildly expensive ie 50 US dollars for a cup of tea and a pastry. They also charge to use the computers in the Business area.So overall not up to the standards of other Hyatts in asia.

We travel quite a bit and have been loyal to Hyatt and have been happy with the brand until this trip. Upon our check-in, we were informed that there is an additional roughly $30 (USD) per night because of the +1 guest. I fully admit that it was my mistake to have made a reservation only for 1; however, I did book a grand king room. Maybe, we took for granted in the state that each room typically allows two people, but this is not the case in Korea.

When we were about to enter the room, there was screaming next door. We could hear every moans and grunts that they make - yes, the wall is that thin. But hey, somebody was having a GREATTTTT time - we just want our quietness after a long day of flying.

As a platinum member, I have never had any issue to get an upgrade when there is one available. I kindly asked the front desk if we could get upgraded. She replied that since I am offered city view, it is considered as an upgrade and there is no other room available. Surprise!!!! I checked the website for that night and there were river-view and deluxe room opening. And upon reading the website, grand-king room can be either city view OR mountain view. So, I guess status does not mean anything to this hotel.

The guest room is outdated and the bathroom is not as clean as we have expected of the Hyatt. I generally do not have problems walking barefoot in a hotel room, but I made sure to put on a pair of slippers in this hotel - the carpet looks very questionable.

The quality of the hotel means a lot to us when we travel. It can make or break a trip; unfortunately, this hotel falls into the latter. This is definitely NOT a 5 stars luxury hotel; it is maybe 3.5 at best. Next time we are here, we would definitely look for another hotel.

Dear Guest,

First of all, we sincerely apologise to you, a valuable Platinum member, for the disappointments you experienced with our facilities and services.

Our rooms are in a constant state of upgrade and refurbishment, and evidently your room was on the later part of the cycle. We have referred your comments to our facilities department for a corrective follow up. While we strive to provide every guest a level of service that meets or exceeds his expectations, our Platinum and Diamond members are especially important to us and we truly regret that we did not appropriately express our appreciation during your visit.

Thank you for sharing your constructive commentary with us and we hope to have the opportunity of restoring your trust in our hotel on a future visit.

We only stayed a few nights but wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel was in a great condition and great location. The staff was wonderful, attentive and friendly. Most likely I will return to this hotel when I visit Korea again.

Great facilities, a bit far from the buzz but I am here for biz trip. Not a bad biz hotel but not much touristy things nearby. Typical high quality Hyatt standard without any bad surprises. 1yr since built hence still worth checking it out for those who enjoy luxury hotel stays. However, givens the location do expect you will spend some time stuck on traffic as you try to go over the bridge for the sites and landmarks.
