“Superb Hotel”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

We stayed the Hyatt last December and we needed a place that was in Itaewon but away from the madding crowds of central Itaewon. The Hyatt is perfectly positioned to offer this. The standard of the rooms and service are typically fantastic as per usual Hyatt standards. Rooms are impeccably kept and we had a great view overlooking Itaewon - we even had a complimentary upgrade upon request. The breakfast buffet was simply magnificent and there was everything you could possibly want for breakfast and more. The hotel is located on the Incheon bus routes and KTX station is not too far away.

This is a fine Hyatt hotel with a good nightclub and in a prime location, but the swimming pool is a mess. On a weekday (Thursday) it's full of families with kids, and all chairs around the pool are fully blocked all day by non-hotel guests. Upon my arrival at the hotel I was given a pool pass (strictly warning that I wouldn't be able to enter the pool area without showing the pass), but no one checked if I had such a pass. Clearly the 50 screaming kids around the pool were not staying in the Hyatt at all , and their families neither. When trying to order from the dining area next to the pool there were no waiters why cared about me as they were all busy attending to the kids and families spread over the other areas. I'm totally puzzled why Hyatt management would allow such a mess in one if their otherwise fine properties in Asia.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review. We apologise for any inconvenience you experienced as a result of our peak summer demand. We have reported your comments to the relevant departments and we are carefully considering how to better improve our service. Please note, our outdoor and indoor swimming pools are reserved exclusively for room guests and Club Olympus members. The general public is not permitted entry, thus the need for the special security. During the summer, Grand Hyatt Seoul hosts many families on holiday as room guests, attracted by our spectacular resort facilities in the heart of Seoul. We are committed to providing all of our guests the service they expect and deserve, and we will try our best to provide you with an improved experience on your next visit.
Again, please accept our apologies and we look forward to your return.

I have only one compliant and I have not only expressed this before on TripAdvisor, I've also emailed the GM directly.

If you stay at this hotel and wish to enjoy the pool you need to make sure you wake up early (7:15am at the very latest) with all the other inconsiderate guests (99% Koreans) and 'reserve' a lounge by the pool because by 7:30am there won't be any available. By 10:00am half of the lounges actually have occupants. Meanwhile, unsuspecting families wonder the pool area looking for empty lounges. None. The fact the hotel management allows this to continue year after year in unbelievable. It is a very simple fix, yet apparently no one in management cares. We try and stay at Hyatt properties when ever we travel (Platinum members). I can't imagine this happening in any other location.

Everything else with this hotel is fantastic. The service. The rooms. The club lounge. It's a shame they can't get their act together at the pool.

Dear Guest,

I would like to apologise for any inconvenience you experienced during your otherwise enjoyable stay. We have reported your comments to our relevant departments and we will work to find a solution to the situation you encountered. I would like to point out, however, that the hotel is quite full during the summer with local Korean guests on holiday at the Grand Hyatt Seoul. We employ very strict limitations on the admission of non-hotel guest visitors during the peak summer pool season, to insure that we reserve these facilities for our hotel room-guests and Club Olympus members. Nevertheless, during certain days of the week in the summer, demand for poolside seats occasionally exceeds supply. That is why we offer many alternative seating options throughout our gardens and sundeck.

Thank you again, for taking the time to leave this candid review about your stay with us. We hope to welcome you back again in the near future.

Best Regards,

It's location at namsan makes it quiet. View is nice but not so convenience. Many visitors to the JJ Maloney bar in the evening for crazy music and disco... It's also a god place for fishing and hunting.

The hotel is located on a top of a hill surrounded by a private park with outdoor swimming pool, terraces and gardens. The Lobby area is getting old but the room have a lot of personality. Mine had a mountain view which was very peaceful and quiet. Excellent service and very nice spa with Korean bath area with hot springs and sauna. Room service and food are excellent. A great choice for Seoul.

I thoroughly recommend this hotel. The manager should be very proud.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights and had a great stay!! I really enjoyed everything about this hotel. I really liked the location of the hotel. I is located on the hill top of Itaewon and right across from Namasan Park, where they have some great trails. It is about a ten minute walk downhill (steep uphill on the way back) to Itaewon. Everywhere else, you need to take a taxi to. Don't worry taxis in Seoul are very reasonably priced. Myeungdong is the main city center and that is where most of the action is. It is about a 10 minute cab ride to there and only costs $5. I really enjoyed the urban escape by coming back to the hotel. The hotel has a beautiful swimming and an amazing sauna. I got free access to the sauna since I am a Gold Passport Platinum member, otherwise it would be $40. For breakfast, they have a bakery that has affordable options for breakfast. I got to say that I thought their restaurant menus were very reasonably priced. The concierge staff are extremely helpful. The rooms were nice. However, I have one minor complaint is that the walls in the standard rooms are very thin. So if you get a family next door, buy some ear plugs!!!Otherwise, my stay was great and I highly recommend this hotel!!

Room Tip: Try to get a quiet room.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for you review, especially your comment “A Great Resort Style Hotel”. We are delighted to know that your stay with us produced pleasant memories of our dining, service and relaxation at our facilities. We pride ourselves on our urban resort experience, offering the comforts of a resort and the convenience of the city.

I would like to recommend that you come back during a different season to see the leaves of our maple trees changing colour during autumn, or during the winter when our magnificent outdoor swimming pool is transformed into a magical ice skating rink.

Again, we greatly appreciate your kind review that will help many potential guests who are contemplating a visit to Seoul, to choose Grand Hyatt Seoul.
