Grand - now there is a word that needs re-defining!

Nice hotel, location on top of a hill with not much around it means taxi to everywhere, but it does have magnificent views across the city.

I don't know how old it is but the rooms have a sense of an old design, from years gone by. The bedrooms are relatively small, bathrooms smaller, with climb in the bath showers which I personally do not like. Everything worked as it should, clean etc....

The lobby is massive and impressive, with bars and restaurants a-plenty. I thought US$ 20 for a G&T at JJ Mahoneys bar was seriously over-the-top. However the music was seriously good.

Staff all very helpful with loads of smiles, however at times challenged by the English language.

Now to the WiFi story - would you believe US 60c per minute to a maximum of US$ 25 per day and no FREE wifi in the lobby - amazingly in the conference area they double these rates. Captive audience I guess. Sadly there is no close by alternative, such as a coffee shop or bar.

I wouldn't stay again, preferring to be in the heart of the city - and there are lots of better priced alternatives there.

Courteous service staff, great location & facilities. Beautiful lobby with extravagant decor. Hotel room was modern, spacious with fantastic snow-covered mountain view. The bed was very comfortable, as expected from a five-star international hotel. We had peaceful & uninterrupted sleep.

The bar had very high ceiling and looked grand with the enormous floor to ceiling glass windows. It was snowing and the view from the bar was awesome, spectacular and romantic as we unwound with delicious finger food and quality red wine.

We took a 5-minute cab ride to a vibrant small town, Itaewon, which housed a variety of Korean and Western restaurants, pubs, bistros, supermarket and shops at attractive prices.

Wifi was neither free in the room nor at the hotel bar. Had to purchase from Concierge where payment must be in cash. Overall, it was a delightful stay.

Room Tip: High floor - 18th & above with mountain or river view.

Staying during 3-7 October 2012. Everyting is fine except the toilet in the room is quite small and no seperate shower. Internet is very expensive 25,000 won and 55,000 won if you use in the function room. Health Club is complimentary for Gym, swimming pool but if you want to use Sauna also have extra charge.

Food is good but for breakfast in the hotel 4 days always the same food and menu, nothing different at all.

This hotel is best if you are not a guest. The lobby is excellent for meetings, with nice music and singers in the early evening. The JJ mahoneys bar is great, with live music later in the evening. The pool is fine, all amenities are there.

Just, the rooms are ridiculous compared to the price paid. The size of the room is very small, and ceilings low. The bathroom just has enough place for a sink, toilet and bath. Yes, for this money you end up standing in the bath to take a shower!

Furthermore, the whole hotel is focused on making as much money out of you as possible. For example, when asking for laundry service, the only option offered was the fast overnight service with a 100% premium. I had to insist on the regular service at normal price. A beer in the bar costs you $19, tea at breakfast $8. Breakfast is unbelievable busy in the morning, despite the nice venue. Internet will cost you another $25/ day, like the general Hyatt standard. I will definitely find myself another hotel next time.

We have dined at Akasaka, the Japanese restaurant, on numerous occasions over the past 7 years--making it a point to visit every time we are in Seoul. The service is good although we have noticed that the authenticity of the taste of the menu items has fallen somewhat. The green tea is weak and the miso soup is lacking the dashi that is essential for the true miso soup flavour. Of course, we don't fault the restaurant on this as it is in Korea not in Japan and they have probably adjusted the flavors somewhat to appease the mainly Korean patrons. The service, ambience and the view certainly made up for the somewhat lack of flavor in a few of the dishes.

After our meal at Akasaka, we walked through the hotel--satisfied with our lovely afternoon at the restaurant and the hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful and the views are fantastic from the restaurant.

The only sour taste left in our mouths from this afternoon at the Hyatt on October 26th was when we were leaving. Being the only ones at the taxi stand, we were greeted by the bellman and waited for a taxi. The taxi attendant/bellman (a man in his early 50s) acknowledged our need for a taxi and hailed one for us. As we were getting ready to get into the taxi, a Korean man decided to cut the queue and got into the taxi that was meant for us--as we were getting ready to get in ourselves. The bellman who had opened the taxi door for us made no effort to tell the man that we had been waiting for the taxi and it was indeed meant for us.

What left an even worse taste in our mouths was that he made no attempt at an apology--which would have made a world of difference to this review. We found the manner in which he handled the situation extremely rude and a terrible way to end an otherwise satisfactory time at the hotel.

I stayed for 3 nights in September on business. I like the drive to the hotel through narrow streets that give you a taste of real Seoul and then at the top of the hill you arrive at the hotel which is set in an impressive location. The lobby is lively with lots going on and the view is great. The rooms are nice although not large and the view from my room was great. The fitness room is excellent and although very busy was always possible to get on a machine you wanted. Staff are very helpful and make you feel welcome.
Easy to get a taxi from the hotels in the morning. Always go for the coloured taxis as the black taxis are far more expensive. Useful to have your address written in Korean as language could be challenging at times. Overall a very good experience.

I stayed here in June 2012 on a 4 day vacation in Seoul. It was my first time to Korea and I did not know if there was going to be a language barrier so I decided to stay in an international five star hotel. The Hyatt did not disappoint at all. I booked the hotel using the Visa Signature card so we had a lot of perks such as a USD25 food and beverage voucher to be used in the hotel daily, late check out at 3pm, free internet and VIP guest status.

The room was pretty small and basic but the wow factor was the awesome view from the room since it was situated on top of a hill. Service was efficient and good. Staff spoke very good English.
