Shah Rukh gets a bit generous after a couple of beers, so a 3-star here may be a bit of a stretch.

The hotel is truly "grand" as you enter, with an impressive lobby and what appears to be a high-tech conference centre next door. There are however some serious issues that the hotel needs to deal with if it wants to be in the big leagues.

Although the breakfast buffet is very nice, with lots of choices, the food in the other restaurants is average and highly unexpected given the price. Even a simple club sandwich is mangled beyond belief. The sushi bar has nice ambience (though empty most of the time), but should have better quality (please, no mayo in the California rolls!). The hotel restaurants also close way too early (Latin people beware!). One of the bars (Lounge Bar) is, well, different. The other one (Member's Bar) is actually open to hotel guests, but is a smoking lounge.

The service staff is very friendly for sure, but not too hip with the details on tours. They messed up mine to the DMZ.

Shah Rukh does like to be upgraded (he is Diamond after all), and the upgrades at this hotel are rather pathetic (editorial note - this has in no way affected this rating). On the plus side, the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to the Itawon area, where you can find lots of shops, restaurants, etc.

Bottom line is that Shah Rukh will look at other hotels on the next visit, and hope that the service, food, and upgrade policy here is improved in case he has to come back for a conference.

Shah Rukh's tip: If it's your first time in Seoul, don't be afraid to take the taxis. They are very affordable, safe, and plentiful. For example, if flying into ICN, then just take a cab from the outside rather than the far more expensive paid taxis. The hotel will give you a 'take me home' card that you can show a taxi driver anywhere to make sure you are brought back to the hotel.

LOCATION: The hotel is located in a quiet, mountainous area of Seoul. It is out of the way and not easily walkable to most places but the shuttle service provided by the hotel works well. It is inexpensive to get to areas by taxi too, particularly to areas such as Shinchon and Yonsei University.

APPEARANCE: The hotel is a large cement-looking structure on the outside but the interior is beautiful and the rooms are very clean, nice and modern. They have touch panel controls for everything you need in the room. The lush view out of the rooms is a rare treat for Seoul though.

TRANSPORTATION: Be careful when you ask for a taxi at the hotel because they will call over the BLACK taxis waiting at the side of the hotel. These black taxis are more expensive than regular taxis (typically orange or other colors) but supposedly offer a higher class of service. In most cases though, a regular cab will be just fine if you are going somewhere and have the address. The hotel will call a regular cab over if you ask for it.

ACCESS: The hotel is up on a hill and if you want to go to other restaurants, you'll have a steep walk up a hill that takes about 3-5 minutes. There is a 7-11 at the bottom of the hill to buy small groceries (5 minute walk) and a large grocery store (Lotte Mart) about 15 minutes away (down to 7-11 and then left all the way to the end of the street). The restaurants near the 7-11 cater to foreigners.

INTERNET: One major drawback is that Internet access is extremely (outrageously) expensive, when it usually free in most other hotels in Seoul. Plan on spending KRW 22,000 (USD 20) a day for the Internet. The lobby is supposed to have free wifi access but it never worked well during my stay.

The staff was very gracious, helpful, and they spoke excellent English. The food and drinks in the lounge were good quality. The location is a little out of the way from some down town attractions, but they have a free shuttle that takes you to many spots.

This hotel is truly amazing. The rooms are very large, modern, clean and comfortable. The hotel staff are all very friendly, professional, helpful and mostly all speak fluent English. While pricing for meals and beverages seem higher than usual, the service, quality and selection make up for this. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for luxury accommodations. The hotel offers a free hourly shuttle service that will bring you to various destinations throughout Seoul that is very helpful if you have free time to explore the city. Within a short walk from the hotel, there are many convenience stores, Korean BBQ Restaurants and other bars, restaurants and shops.

The hotel is not centrally located, nothing wrong if you have business in this area. The hotel is old, the rooms are ok, nothing great. Theres airport bus to here, however you have to specifically tell the bus driver And also remind him when getting closer that you are getting off there. the hotel is on a small hill and the bus stop is down the hill. It happened me once the driver passed the bus stop, he didnt drive back just dropped me off in the traffic light junction. Once at the bus stop, hilton has a shuttle minbus that brings you to the entrance of the hotel.
