“First hotel stay in South Korea”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We were on a package tour to South Korea.
We stayed 2 nites - 1 nite on end of Nov and another was beginning of Dec. We get 2 different type of room, we can say 1 is newer and the other is older.
Weather was berable, around 3 degree.
Breakfast fair is quite a good spread and tasty too.
First nite on Nov.
- Room was new and nice, with plenty of mirror on the wall and ceiling too, even in the bathroom. Room view is main street. Location of the room is quite near the lift lobby.
Second nite on Dec.
- Room was old and further from lift lobby. Room view is the back, facing empty outdoor swimming pool.
- Very beautiful christmas decoration at the hotel lobby.
Does not have the time to explore the surrondings.

Room Tip: Do request the newer room which is facing the main street.

Greetings from the Imperial Palace Seoul!

First I would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review!
Your feedback is valued and enables us to improve our service.

I was so glad to hear that you enjoyed our breakfast buffet. We do our best to offer our guests a variety of tasty foods. If you enjoyed our breakfast buffet, during your next visit I would recommend trying our main buffet restaurant for dinner – it is very well known for the quality and variety of food.

I was also glad to hear that you enjoyed your room on your first night with us in November. Regarding your second night with us in December, I am sorry that you were not as comfortable in this room. We are planning on remodeling the remainder of our older rooms this year. As for which direction the room faces (front or back side of building), if you specify which direction you prefer when you make a reservation we will do our best to pre-assign your desired room type. You can also feel free to contact me personally for assistance at crawford@iphotel.co.kr.

So glad you liked our Christmas decorations. We do our best to create a warm and festive atmosphere over the holiday season. This year we also had a special Gingerbread House Charity Event with proceeds going to a local children’s hospital charity. I saw you had a great picture of our Gingerbread House and Christmas lights in the lobby!

Once again, thank you for sharing your comments and festive holiday photos. We hope to welcome you back to Imperial Palace Seoul again soon!

Warm Regards,

Susan Crawford

The room was so small and old with dark red outdated wall paper, bathroom ceiling was falling apart, rusted hinges..... Couldn't believe this kind of hotel exist in upscale town of Gangnam.
I booked for 4 nights but after first night, I checked out and moved to other hotel.

Greetings from the Imperial Palace Seoul.

I am so sorry that we could not offer you a better experience at the Imperial Palace Seoul. You had stayed in one of our superior rooms which is due to be renovated early next year. If you should choose to stay with us again, I think you may be more comfortable in one of our Deluxe or Club rooms until all of our renovations are complete.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or need assistance with anything on your next visit to Seoul. I will do my best to make your future stays with us more comfortable and enjoyable.

I wish you a very happy holiday season and best wishes for the New Year.

Sincerely,

Very helpful and nice staff.
Can be romantic (rooms), but little bit dark and creepy (bar or way to the gym) sometimes:)
There is bus going directly from the hotel to the airport - very fast, cosy and cheap.
Gym is pretty nice with pool and jacuzzi.
What was killing me was the elevator - I had to use a card to get to my room and it didnt work very often.
What I loved were cookies made in hotel that are available in lounge during the day:)

We stayed at the hotel for four nights and basically the hotel was in our high satisfaction. Unfortunately, in the morning we departed from the hotel we were basically insulted by the lobby lounge attendant. Our airport bus was scheduled to depart from the hotel at 8:05 in the morning and the bell captain told us to sit and wait at the lobby lounge. Five minutes before the departure the lounge attendant drove us out because we did not order any drinks. The hotel has no place to sit to wait and the time was early. Beyond we two were siting and waiting , there was no guest there. I just do not understand why should she treat their guest with this kind of attitude. The hotel is not Model 6 and the way that the hotel staff treating their respectable guest should not be accepted.

The hotel looks grand outside and probably was once in another era. Socially speaking it is positioned in the middle of zero action - restaurants and bars. The rooms are a little expensive and everything seemed to be extra cost - breakfast, internet. I had to pay for internet on a daily basis in the room and again in the conference room. The conference room had a jack hammer going on the floor above. The concierge was less than useful. I did have a great breakfast delivered to the room and there is a respectable wine list. The best thing about the hotel is a high quality 24 hour Thai massage centre 5 minutes’ walk away which is great if you have jet lag.

Must be one of the worst hotels I have had the experience at staying at in 10 years working in Asia. The corporate rate was cheap so that should have been a clue to the quality. Booked a non smoking room but the room reeked of cigarette smoke and they would not swap me. The weather was quite warm and humid but the aircon was disconnected and they would not switch on. The hotel is very dated and the rooms very dark and gloomy. Beds are OK if you like hard but wont suit many westerners.
