Awesome stay here for 3 nights. Beautiful location near the Bogenusa temple, great room overlooking the Han River. Awesome breakfast, albeit a bit pricey, very comfortable bed and great sleep quality, quiet room, courteous staff (a bit over courteous ;)). Restaurant (Fusion) was not that great, but good variety and selection but the bar makes up. Wifi was blazing fast even for streaming video. All in all this is an awesome hotel in a great location and very good stay.

Stayed in August 2014. The arrival was awesome and the staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The check in process was quick and I was kindly upgraded.

The lobby area is impressive with the lounge bar/restaurant and the high sofas to sit in. There is also this funny "camping area" where you can sit on camping gear.

The rooms were okay although I am not a fan of the green carpets. The facilities in the room are impressive including the use of a mobile phone and an egg for wifi.

The bathroom was big and had a separate bath and shower but overall lacked a sense of personalization.

Would stay again and agree this is a good business hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback and recognition of our wonderful team following your stay, much appreciated.
We get numerous comments about our green carpet with the intention of bringing more of a nature feel into our rooms, with the fantastic temple located directly across from the hotel, something that should not be missed when visiting Seoul.
Thanks again for sharing and I shall definitely pass on your feedback to the team and we all hope to be able to welcome you back to the hotel sometime in the near future.

Best Regards,

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review following your stay with us here in Seoul, much appreciated.

As you have highlighted, with direct access to the Coex shopping mall, Convention Center, Casino and other areas of Coex our hotel location is truly second to none when it comes to doing anything in this now highly famous Gangnam area of Seoul.
I was pleased to hear that you enjoyed your room and the breakfast offering and shall share this with the team as they are always very happy when mentioned in reviews.
Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to be able to welcome you back to the hotel on your next visit to Seoul.

I stayed at the InterContinental COEX for 4 days (in July 2014) and enjoyed it. I was in Seoul for business and the hotel suited my needs. It's conveniently located by Seoul's COEX center which makes it accessible to the trains and the nearby COEX mall (which, unfortunately, isn't fully opened yet though the Lotte Duty Free shopping centre is!). The hotel also has direct access to the casino which is convenient for those who are so inclined.

The hotel room was spacious though not entirely well laid out. I would have preferred it if the main table (study) was located more away from the centre of the room. For a solo travellers, it's not a bad thing but if you have company, it would be difficult to do work on the table while someone else wants to watch TV from the bed since you're in the way. (TV-wise, they had heaps of channels but oddly, not a movie channel except for PPV so don't expect too much HBO while you're there.) That said, the room was clean and comfortable as were the bath and toilet.

Service standards were high and most of the staff refused tips. The staff were also very pleasant and approachable. Food-wise, the hotel's dining options were not bad though a little pricey. The breakfast selection at the buffet was good offering both western, asian as well as local Korean options. I would recommend getting a table by the window because it is brightest there, especially if you're looking to do some newspaper reading while having your eggs and waffles. If you want a nice way to wind down for the day, the Sky lounge on the 30th floor provides nice views of the city. Drinks, unfortunately, were a bit expensive but not out of the range of these hotels.

For fitness buffs, the hotel has a very well equipped gym and pool. I used the fitness facilities on 2 occasions and never once felt that it was crowded. The gym equipment were also well looked after, clean and easy to use. I didn't use the pool but it never had more than 1-2 swimmers while I was there (so it too wasn't crowded).

The only downsides to this hotel are that:

1. It is located in South Seoul (i.e. the southern half from the Han River) which can be tricky if you plan to spend time in North Seoul which is where the financial & business district and other shopping sites are located. But travelling to and from the hotel is convenient with the use of the trains or taxis (do note that Seoul is heavily populated so traffic can be a real nightmare).

2. The hotel caters for tourists so you can expect larger/noisy (though not unruly) crowds at the breakfast buffet, especially over the weekend. Of course, if you'd prefer something more upmarket and private, the Grand InterContinental Hotel may be a better choice - it's on the other side of COEX.

One final plus point is that the Airport Bus "Limo" (KAL) service picks up passengers right from the hotel lobby (one-way will cost you KRW16,000) making it very convenient! (Note that the journey from the hotel to Incheon airport on the bus took almost 90 minutes.)

I'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor to get a better view of the city.

On arrival at the hotel the facade is impressive as is the greeting. However the satisfaction is somewhat diminished the longer you stay due to a number of small 'niggles' that crop up on a daily basis. Nothing to write home about and I would consider staying here again in the future; just enough to take the shine off. The location is excellent and I found getting around was easy. My room was spacious and basically clean (corners of shower etc. were in need of more attention - this is indicative of the small niggles).

Room Tip: For a good view I would suggest higher rooms but that is true of most hotels. From what I saw there...

Caught the 90min shuttle bus from the airport right to the door. Checked in pretty quickly and got up to the 19th floor to find a nice enough room. On the small side but comfortable for sure. Bathroom was slightly dated and had one of those water saving nozzles from the 90's that make it hard to get wet. The telly lost signal on all the English channels but one after about 10mins. Luckily Top Gear was on that channel!

Breaky was the usual well spread western buffet with a few Chinesy offerings. I didn't get it in the room price (I was checking out too early) and got a little sticker shock with a 45,000 ($45) bill. My 15% discount voucher that I printed during booking on the IHG site took the edge off it.

Checkout at 4.30am to catch the 90 minute shuttle bus is a bit rough. The alternative is an hour in a cab at ~$80.

Room Tip: Rooms near the lift are good if you like the constant ping of the bells!

A complete summary of my stay at the hotel, location, price, staff etc.

Location
My Korean colleague travelling with me was certainly puffed the first night of arrival as it was a 20 minute power walk from the nearest train station on a hot night. We suggest to get around the easiest way is a taxi, thankfully taxi's are very cheap

Not to confused with The Grand Intercontinental Hotel
Just a block away is another intercontinental hotel, make sure your instructions are very clear to the driver which one you want to go to. We were taken to the wrong one a couple of times!

Friendly Staff
Staff will open your car door, carry your luggage, wait with you while you check in, take you up the lift, assist you into the room and explain what all the buttons on the remote control do. The service is great and very friendly, just be prepared to say hello to everyone as you walk past each time.

English
The spoken english is very good, I had some great conversation with the hotel staff. The only difficulty I had was when I called the front desk from my room, the person on the receiving end was unable to speak english.

Function Centres
The function centres are quite nice, modern and we enjoyed a very tasty 5 course meal during one of our events. Certainly a good dynamic space to hold a business event

Temperature
Each rooms has its own climate control, hot or cold it worked really well!

Rooms
Rooms were clean, comfortable, spacious, with complimentary slippers, fresh towels daily, made beds, if you leave items lying around whoops they will place everything in straight rows for you. The toilet seats are also heated! That was a surprise! haha.

Price
You are paying for a 5 star hotel, yes it is going to be expensive, thankfully I was there on business. However comparatively the prices seem reasonable to other 5 star hotels in some countries! However, the food is certainly overpriced, neighbouring restaurants are not far, don't be afraid to head into Gangnam to get some tasty local food!
